Late Model Drivers are Making Their Point at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

It may be early in the year, but if things continue the way they’ve started, the 2013 Late Model track championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park won’t be decided until the final lap of the last race during the closing night of the season.

With a pair of shows in the record books, the top 4 runners in the field are separated by just 2 points.  Mark Gordon and Darren Kearnan have each recorded feature race wins, but in each 25 lapper, the rest of the pack crossed the line tightly glued to their rear bumpers.  Speedway manager Glenn Butt says that based on what the division has shown in just 2 starts, fans at the half-mile oval have an exciting season of action to look forward to.

“Opening night, nearly the entire pack was fighting for the win and just one slip-up could’ve taken out the whole field,” said Butt.  “A week later, the #55 scored a commanding win, but the rest of the top 5 positions were still up for grabs coming to the checkered flag.  These drivers are treating our fans to some exciting, edge of your seat racing performances.”

Although he has yet to claim a feature race win, Linc Brown enjoys a slim lead in the point chase after a pair of events.  The Colborne, Ontario veteran’s consistency has paved the way to his strong start.  2012 track champion Kyle ‘Wheely’ Donaldson is just a point behind Brown and although he is also still waiting for a first trip to victory lane, the Queensville, Ontario speedster has been typically quick out of the box.  Ironically, the year’s first main event winners – Mark Gordon of Richmond Hill and Stouffville’s Darren Kearnan – are tied for 3rd in the standings, with 85 points each.

Saturday at the Park:  Action resumes Saturday, June 8th at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Speedway.  After inclement weather cancelled the scheduled event June 1st, the Late Models will be back in action and joined by the Lucas Oil Pure Stocks.  The Bob’s Towing Thunder Cars will get a week off, while fans are treated to the first of this year’s 2 appearances by the Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds.  The night’s first green flag is scheduled for 6:00...Saturday, June 22nd all regular divisions get a much deserved night off as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series takes over the track for a 200 lap extravaganza.  It will be the tour’s second of 3 stops at the venue for 2013.  The final visit will be during the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Weekend, August 30th to September 1st on the road course.
