Stone takes Mike Watts Memorial 100

Robin Wood wins Limited Late Model title

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Modified champion Todd Stone kept Jessey Mueller at bay in the closing laps of the Mike Watts Memorial 100 and closed out the season with his 7th win Sunday. The Middlebury, Vt. driver was a dominant force on the Plattsburgh half-mile all season. He was the opening day winner and the point leader from start to finish and had three 2nd-place drives to go with his seven wins.

Mueller had trimmed Stone’s lead to three car-lengths and was looking for more when the third and final caution came out on lap 88. The single file restart put Mueller on Stone’s bumper for a 13-lap shootout, but at the drop of the green, Stone rebuilt his lead and Mueller couldn’t ever get to him.

Andy Lindemann was the best of the rest in 3rd. Lindemann led the first 34 laps before Stone went by. Chris Cayea was a strong 4th, followed by Andy Heywood.

Wood’s championship effort was co-sponsored by Leland’s Barber Shop and Daniels Signs. “I want to thank my Dad, my crew chief Tyler (Wood) and Niki,” Wood said. “I got a good early run on some cars and then it came down to keeping Danny behind me.”

Codie Aubin of Plattsburgh drove the RPM Wired.com No.7 to his first career-win in the Sportsman Modified feature which was red-flagged on the second lap for a mutli-car wreck on the frontstretch that left Lonnie Rivers’ car on top pf Nick heywood’s machine and knocked four cars out of the race.

Aubin caught Jake Branham for the lead on lap 18. Mike Phinney closed for 2nd. Branham held off Mark Lamberton for a podium finish.

Robert Gordon of Milton, VT won the Renegade feature. Gordon’s 2nd win of the season gives him 15 career wins – tops on the all-time Renegade list. Lance Rabtoy of Fairfax, VT battled Ryan Boutin for 2nd, settled for 3rd and then celebrated his first Renegade track championship.

Kris Clark of Keeseville was the Mini Modified winner in the Bob’s Trucking No. 7. Clark got to a long early lead and then held off a late surge from Dale O’Neill.
