Grassroots Racing Series Announces a Change to the Posted Schedule

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Grassroots Racing Series has been forced to make a change to the schedule that was released when the original 8 race agenda was first announced.  The planned Sunday, July 6th show has been cancelled and action will now resume Friday, July 18th with a 4 division program featuring 4Fun, Mini Stock, Thunder Car and Late Model racing.

After 1 Friday night and a pair of Sunday afternoons of action for the inaugural calendar, Derek Lynch leads the Late Model standings by 11 markers over Ryan Kimball.  Dan McHattie sits in 3rd spot, with 247 points. In the Thunder Car field, John Baker Jr. is at the top of the heap with 282 points.  Former 2 time Kawartha Speedway Thunder Car track champion Willie Reyns is second with 260, followed by Howie Crowe with 238.  Tyler Junkin is the best of the Mini Stock bunch with 274, while Craig Martin and Danny Benedict are next, with 251 and 222 points respectively.  Andrew Massey is in charge of the 4Fun division, with 288 points.  Marilyn Junkin's 236 points has her solidly in second spot and Tiffany Vandebelt is 3rd, with 155.

Although he's disappointed about having to pull a planned event off the schedule, Grassroots Racing Series promoter Andrew McFadden says he continues to think about the upstart operation's remaining shows in a positive light.

"The on-track performance has been outstanding, with some excellent racing across in every division across the board,"  said McFadden.  "What we may have lacked in quantity has certainly been made-up for with quality.  Seeing the Mini Stocks fighting 4 wide for position down the backstretch and watching the best Late Model drivers in the province battle for supremacy lap after lap has been any race fan's dream come true.  I'm sure we'll see the same type of shows once we're back underway on July 18th."
