STECKLY POSTS SOLID FINISH AT GRAND PRIX DE TROIS RIVIERES

Sunday Aug. 2, 2015, Trois Rivieres, QC:  Scott Steckly and his 22 Racing/Canadian Tire team hoped for a top ten finish today in event eight of the eleven race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 and they came away with a clean race car and a ninth place finish.

Saturday was practice and qualifying day for the Julia Wine 50 on Sunday afternoon.  In first practice Steckly posted the eighth quickest time.  The team went to work making changes prior to the second session coming up an hour later.  Rain showers blew through the area prior to their track time so with the course being very wet, Steckly along with most of the other 25 cars elected to stay in the pits.  "We didn't get a chance to try out our changes because of the rain so we will have to wait until qualifying to see if they worked or not," said Steckly.

With rain threatening again prior to the qualifying session, the Canadian Tire Dodge team were anxious to get on the track quickly.  A penalty issued by NASCAR had them held up on pit road for the first five minutes of qualifying.  But Steckly did his job and posted the eighth quickest time, lining him up on the outside of row four for the start of the race on Sunday.

Steckly circled the 1.53 mile, 11 turn street course in seventh position right from the drop of the green flag.  He was running consistent times with the three competitors in front of him and was waiting for a chance to make a move.  A late race caution saw the field bunch up for the remaining eight lap of the 50 race distance and Steckly was the victim of some aggressive driving and he lost a couple of positions.  "I'm not really strong at this track for some reason," said Steckly.  "I was working on just keeping the fenders on the car and bringing home a top 5 but the competition is so intense now with some of these younger road course drivers so I guess we will have to be satisfied with a ninth.  Its still a decent points day for us."

With his ninth place finish, Steckly maintains the Championship points lead but the battle is heating up as they head back to an oval track in two weeks.  The teams will head to Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on Saturday Aug. 15th.

The JuliaWine50 will air on TSN on Saturday August 15th at 1:30 p.m. and on RDS on Sunday August 2nd at 2:30 p.m. (LIVE)
