Saturday night at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval is all about the feeling, the atmosphere and the emotion. The countdown is on and in about a week, the sounds of silence will be replaced by those of short track racing excitement. The roar of the crowd. The reverberation of the racing engines as the pack thunders down the homestretch toward the checkered flag. These are the moments that Peterborough Speedway fans have grown to love for nearly half a century.

The 2016 campaign gets underway with the annual Country 105 Season Opener – featuring free spectator grandstand admission – Saturday, May 21st. Take in the 5 home track divisions – Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Jiffy Lube Mini Stocks, Renegade Trucks, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Cars and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Models – plus the INEX Ontario Legends, with a Fan Appreciation autograph session at intermission. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says there's no motorsports experience like it anywhere in the province.

"Our staff and the drivers in every class pull out all the stops to kick-off the season with a bang," said Josiasse. "From the first Great Canadian RV Sales green flag of the night, to the final winner's circle photo in Dart Heating & Air Conditioning Victory Lane, opening night at Peterborough Speedway packs a punch."

The lid lifter at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City is a family moment that plays to a full grandstand. Saturday, May 21st is more than this year's season opener. It's a chance to see the exciting new paint schemes and designs on the racing machines at the hometown raceway. It's the opportunity to have your first taste of the fantastic fan favourite fresh cut French fries that Peterborough Speedway has become so famous for.

For the first event of the year, the schedule of events will be slightly different than during the rest of the season. At the annual Country 105 Season Opener – Saturday, May 21st – pit gates will open at 1:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 3:00and the night's first qualifying heat race on the track at 5:00.
