BANDY EDGES HEATH FOR WINTER BLAST 100 VICTORY
Lyndonville, Vermont's Doug Bandy would rather be lucky than good as survived an altercation in turn two of the final lap and nursed his winning car across the start / finish line narrowly edging Waterford, Maine's Jamie Heath by a few feet in the Dalton Mountain Motorsports Winter Blast 100, presented by Optical Expressions Berlin, The Sign Depot, North Country Family Restaurant and Around The Clock Auto Repair at Speedway 51 in Groveton, New Hampshire. Entries came from New York, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New Hampshire.
A perfect day greeted the racing starved racers and fans as sixty-two cars signed into the pit area, and the jam packed grandstands were treated to a fun, thrill filled afternoon. Concord, Vermont's, Scott Morrison grabbed the early lead and masterfully dodged stalled vehicles and heavy traffic until lap sixty when Doug Bandy took the point. Bandy was on cruise control as the track grew extremely slick in the late stages of the event. On lap ninety-nine Bandy got together with a lapped car in turn two. He struggled through turn three with Jamie Heath quickly closing in. Bandy limped across the finish line just about fifteen feet ahead of Heath to nail down the victory and grab the four foot winner's trophy. Lil Brendan Moodie from Wolcott came home third followed by Kevin Whittum Jr. from Dalton, New Hampshire, and Donnie Yates from East Montpelier, Vermont.
The next event on the calendar at Speedway 51 will be Vintage Snowmobile racing this coming Saturday, January 28th at 10am. The four dates of the Series are Saturday, January 28th, Saturday, February 18th and 25th, as well as March 4th. There will be points for the entire Series and rules, registration and information can all be found on the Speedway 51 webpage.
