Barre, Vt. – Barre's Thunder Road closes out the month of July with the annual Times Argus Mid-Season Championships this Thursday, July 27. Double points will be on the line in all events for the Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks, giving the night the potential to be a deciding factor in many drivers' championship hopes.

All three divisions will run extra-distance features, highlighted by a 75-lap main event for the Late Models. But with twice as many points going to all positions – including 150 points for the feature winner versus 75 points for winning a regular weekly event – drivers know they will need to get to the front in order to maintain their spot in the standings or to make a move.

"There's always some added hype coming into the Mid-Season Championships because of double points on the line, and it's close at the top right now between us and Trampas (Demers)," Late Model point leader Bobby Therrien. "The key to having a good night is to be mistake-free. That's obviously the biggest part both as a driver and as a team. We've got to go in there and know that we need to execute like we have the first half of the year because that's what's gotten us in the position that we're in."

Hinesburg's Therrien holds a 29-point lead in the standings over South Burlington's Trampas Demers on the strength of a Memorial Day Classic win, three second-place finishes and four semi-feature victories. But Demers has been hot of late, winning the Vermont Governor's Cup on July 13 and posting three other top-five finishes in the last four events.

Barre's Jason Corliss earned his second feature win of the season last week to vault to third in the standings. Eric Chase, defending "King of the Road" Scott Dragon, Darrell Morin, Marcel J. Gravel, and Kyle Pembroke are among the other drivers who could vault into serious title contention with a strong performance this Thursday.

In the Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, 2015 Champion Brendan Moodie of Wolcott has been the class of the field with eight top-five finishes in nine events. He currently holds a 27-point lead over 1991 Champion Dwayne Lanphear of Morrisville, who has racked up six top-five results in his own right. 2014 Champion Jason Woodard, leading rookie Jaden Perry, last week's winner Mike Martin, and two-time 2017 winner Trevor Lyman all sit within striking distance should Moodie and Lanphear stumble on double-points night.

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks have been closely bunched all season and remain so heading into the Mid-Season Championships, with just 52 points separating the top-12 in the standings. 2015 Champion Jamie Davis of Wolcott enters the event holding a five-point advantage over Fairfax's Alan Maynard, with cousins Brandon and Reilly Lanphear close behind. Drivers such as Cooper Bouchard, Kevin Streeter, and Gary Mullen could also vault to the top of the charts.

Qualifying for the Times Argus Mid-Season Championships goes to post at 7:00pm on Thursday, July 20. In addition to added distance and double points for the Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks, fans will get the chance to meet their favorite competitors during the annual driver autograph session. Admission is just $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).
