Home Track Mini Stocks Brought Big 2025 Numbers to Central Ontario

It was another verse of a familiar song as the local SwitchTire Mini Stock racers showed their stuff in weekly Saturday night action at Peterborough Speedway.
After running about a handful of races during each of the last few seasons, Mike Nelson claimed the 2025 track championship. A hard crash late in the year sidelined his regular ride, but Nelson was able to wheel a car he borrowed from fellow racer Tyler Junkin to the overall crown by a 28-point cushion over John Lavalle. Tyler McMurter, Dave Bragg and Todd Labadie rounded out the top 5 finishing positions.
Year after year, Peterborough Speedway's Mini Stock division boasts some of the strongest car counts in the track's weekly classes. 34 different teams earned points in at least one main event in 2025. Venue officials and promotional staff expect the same type of field once the new season gets underway on Victoria Day Weekend. Once again this year, the local Mini Stock teams will look for bragging rights while defending the home track honours with a 50-lap invitational Saturday, August 1st.
In addition to his time in a Mini Stock, Mike Nelson was also part of what is now known as the Ontario Sportsman Series from 2012 to 2017. That group will return to the Peterborough Speedway schedule with a 100 lapper Saturday, August 8th. Connor James and Brendan Patrick shared the checkered flags in a pair of 50-lap main events. Connor James – who is no stranger to Peterborough Speedway – clinched the 2025 series title by a 102-point margin over Patrick.
It's the perfect time to start making plans to kick-off the 2026 season – Saturday, May 16th – at Peterborough Speedway. Look for a copy of the track's event schedule during upcoming special events and activities throughout the Central Ontario region.
Be sure to keep an eye on www.peterboroughspeedway.com and the track's social media platforms and pages for latest news and information on the launch of the upcoming schedule.
