Rappel

MOTORCYCLE LEGENDS MIGUEL AND YVON DUHAMEL ARE COMING TO THE CME

(TORONTO, ON // DECEMBER 15, 2009) There is no question that Canada’s first family of motorcycle racing is the Duhamel clan, and two of its legendary members will make an appearance at the Canadian Motorsports Expo Jan. 22-24, 2010.

Yvon Duhamel, the patriarch of the family, and his son Miguel, will be at the International Centre in Mississauga, ON to meet racing fans, sign autographs and talk about their storied careers.

A native of Montreal, Yvon Duhamel made his name as a versatile racer who tackled virtually every form of the sport, from motocross and ice racing to flat track and road race. He earned international acclaim, however, for his road racing exploits. Riding for the Deeley Yamaha team, Duhamel finished second in the Daytona 200 in 1968 and qualified on pole for the 1969 Daytona 200 with the first ever qualifying lap above 150 mph.

In 1971 Yvon joined the Kawasaki factory racing team and became famous for his ability to tame the daunting H2R three-cylinder two-stroke. He won five American Motorcyclist Association Nationals for Kawasaki between 1971 and ’73 and represented the company on the international stage.

Miguel Duhamel is one of the most successful racers in AMA history. He has won the Daytona 200 on five occasions, claimed five AMA Supersport titles, two AMA Formula Xtreme crowns and was AMA Superbike champion in 1995.

He was the AMA Superbike Rookie of the Year in 1990, riding for the Yoshimura Suzuki team. He raced for Honda in 1991 and competed in Grand Prix racing in 1992 on a Yamaha. After a year with Kawasaki in the U.S. in ’93, he helped Harley-Davidson’s fledgling Superbike team in 1994 before joining the American Honda factory squad in 1995 for a relationship that would last 14 years.

Miguel is the winningest rider in AMA road racing history with 86 victories in Superbike, Supersport and Formula Xtreme competition.

“Having Yvon and Miguel Duhamel join us at the Canadian Motorsports Expo brings a whole new element to this event,” said CME show founder and president Glenn Butt. “They are without a doubt two of this country’s most successful racing exports and have represented Canada with great distinction internationally.”

ABOUT THE CME: The Canadian Motorsports Expo is a three-day celebration of Canadian racing that runs January 22 to 24 at the International Centre (6900 Airport Road in Mississauga). The show is powered by Inside Track Motorsport News and supported by companies like Lucas Oil Canada, NASCAR Canada, Mosport International Raceway and Canadian Tire. In addition to booths and racing vehicles representing the entire spectrum of Canadian motorsports, the show is loaded with seminars and forums to entertain and inform racers and fans alike. Star drivers Matt Kenseth, Paul Tracy, Ron Fellows and Jessica Zemken will be at the CME to sign autographs and meet the fans.

REIGNING DAYTONA 500 CHAMPION AND PAST NASCAR SPRINT CUP CHAMP COMING TO THE CME

NASCAR star Matt Kenseth has accomplished a lot during his racing career. The 37-year-old Wisconsin native won the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship in dominant fashion, and he will head to Daytona International Speedway, next February, as the defending winner of the world’s most coveted stock car race; the Daytona 500.

But before he does that, Matt Kenseth will be coming to Toronto’s International Centre on Saturday, January 23, 2010 to meet with fans and sign autographs at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Kenseth has many enthusiastic fans in Canada, many of whom were at Cayuga Speedway in 2002 when he emerged victorious in a thrilling CASCAR race, beating a field comprised of several other NASCAR stars and talented Canadian racers.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to the Canadian Motorsports Expo,” said Kenseth, in announcing his appearance at the CME. “Canadian racing fans are very passionate about NASCAR and it’ll be great to have an opportunity to talk racing with them again, and to sign some autographs. One of the last times I was near Toronto, it was for a CASCAR race at Cayuga Speedway, which I was fortunate enough to win. So much has happened since then; it’ll be fun to catch up with everyone at the Canadian Motorsports Expo.”

Speaking on behalf of the CME, show founder and President Glenn Butt said, “We are extremely proud to announce Matt Kenseth’s participation at the 4th Annual Canadian Motorsports Expo. There are very few people in the world who have won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship or stood in victory lane at the Daytona 500. Matt Kenseth is a member of a very exclusive club of individuals who have done both. We are all thrilled that he will be coming to the CME.”

Specific details about Matt Kenseth’s appearance will be released in the coming weeks.

ABOUT MATT KENSETH: Matt Kenseth drives the No. 17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Roush Fenway Racing. Kenseth’s victory in the 2009 Daytona 500 was the first-ever for the Roush Fenway team. Kenseth, who has 18 Sprint Cup victories to his credit, hails from Cambridge, Wisconsin. He won the NASCAR Sprint Cup title in 2003, just three seasons after being honoured as the series’ top rookie (in 2000). Prior to that, he competed in the ARTGO, ASA, Hooter’s Late Model and Nationwide Series. Kenseth won the International Race of Champions (IROC) title in 2004.

NOUVELLE DIRECTION @ CAPITAL CITY SPEEEDWAY

Since Friday, you can read on Capital City Speedway’s website that Arnie Malcom, promoter and general manager, since 2005 will no longer be working for the track.

Let’s recap : he was given the keys to the facility by the Drummond group to turn things around after the Mottodrome episode. The last two years you could see the results of the turn around: better crowd, more cars on the track – especially Late Models and a much improved racing show on the track.

No news on who will take over for the Malcom familly. As for Arnie Malcom in an email response to me said he was still evaluating opportunities.

In the same posting we find out that track announcer Brian Goudge will also not be back at the CSS facility. No news on who is replacement will be.

Here is what can be read on CSS’ website:

WE SAY GOOD BUY FROM CAPITAL CITY SPEEDWAY .CA: DEC 12. 2009
Well folks as we announced at the banquet, we would not be back in 2010 and this write up is to officially confirm that to the stock car community. Its been a blast and even though we have not made friends with everyone along the way, (you never can running a race track) we hope we have done something's that have made you pleased. When we took over the speedway in 2005 at the encouragement of the Drummond Family we really thought we would be around for a long while like we have at Luskville Dragway and that was the plans. Motorsports has been part of our entire Families lives for the past 40 years, our kids have never spend a weekend at a cottage by a lake, as a race track as always been their weekend cottage's. And that was no different when we where asked to revive Capital City Speedway, all of us put our hearts and souls into doing just that. However I guess in some ways we did too good a job, as it seems that now that we have rebuilt the speedway a certain degree from where it was when we took over, it looks appealing to others. Too all of the advertisers, all of the staff the drivers, the teams and the fans, the last four years has been fun but now the end has come for us. We will miss the track and most of those associated with it, leaving is not easy and not what we wanted, I hope we will be remembered for what we did. Monster Jam will always be a highlight, as will being part of Loudon NH with one of our drivers out there competing on a super speedway, also watching so many new people come into the sport and do so well that included many new female drivers for the sport. We have heard that the track will be repaved and that is something we asked for each and every year, so if that happens then maybe the last four years played a part in that happening, and that is great for you racers, you deserve it. We wish nothing but good things to all you drivers and teams and I certainly expect too see many of you next summer at one track or the other.

Arnie, Diane, Angie, Derek, Jason, Taz, Lila, and Olivia

AROUND THE TRACK: DEC 12/09
*BRIAN GOUDGE RE
TIRES FROM CAPITAL CITY SPEEDWAY: When we where asked by the Drummonds in 2005 to take over Capital City Speedway and see if we could rebuild it, we knew we had our work cut out for us. And one of the first people we contacted was Brian "Motor Mouth" Goudge, who I had known and worked with many times at Capital City Speedway in the Past. We firmly believed that Brian was a Key ingredient in any rebuilding that was too go on at the speedway and I think the past four years have proven that. Considered one of, if not thee best race track announcers anywhere, Brian played a huge part in any success we saw at the track and was a key factor in the rebirth of CCS. As things start to change at the speedway Brian has decided it is time for him too move on also. I think it is safe too say that Brian was a major part in all the "Good Times" that Capital City Speedway has had over the years, whether it was under Dave Booth, Penny Bell or the Malcolm Family. As far as Im concerned Brian's Voice at Capital City Speedway shouting out, "and here they come out of corner #4, wheel to wheel, bumper to bumper to bumper" is Capital City Speedway and it will never be the same with out him. I have also added a brief email message that is added below from Brian:
Hi Arnie,

I’m okay with my retirement being included in your announcement. I have enjoyed the multi-year relationship with the various promoters and thought that we were on to something bigger and better as we moved forward. It’s been a great ride... who knows what the future will bring for “MotorMouth”?

All the best!

Cheers,

Brian

PERFORMANCE RACING INDUSTRY TRADE SHOW - Canadian too!

Special collaboration by John Procida, PRI Media Contact

This year's PRI Show features more than 1,100 exhibitor booths, with an expected 35,000 to 40,000 buyers on hand for what is the world's largest racing trade show - and one of the world's 50 largest trade shows of any kind.

While the number of booths is slightly down from a year ago due to the downturn in the economy, early trends show that actual buying is trending upward as people start to see a more positive future.

Included among the 1,100 exhibitors are 21 from Canada, to go along with approximately 300 buyers who pre-registered for this year's show.

Stewart McKay, of BC-based Deta Custom Tools:  "We've been coming to the PRI Show for 21 to showcase our machining work.  It's really a great event for both sales and schooling.  Not a year goes by when we don't learn something new here to apply to what we do.   If you're in the performance industry, PRI is the place to be."

Guillame Couture, of Montreal-based CHAG Autosport:  "Our heat cylinder (for bringing tires up to the desired temperatures) was developed in the UK and we're distributing here in North America.   This is our first year as an exhibitor, but we've been to PRI as a buyer for the past four years.  This is obviously, the biggest, most popular show in the world.   Everyone that's important in our market is here, so we need to be here at PRI."

Among the notable happenings this year includes a late-model stock car chassis being built from the ground up here by Leavitt Chassis, of Mooresville, North Carolina.    The company began work as the show opened on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. and is only being worked on during show hours (9 to 6 each day) and is expected to be completed by noon on Saturday to be raffled off to benefit the Victory Junction Gang charity.

In addition to the activities going on inside the Show's walls was the always popular PRI/CKI All-Star Karting Classic on Thursday, which a star-studded line-up that included IndyCar racers Alex Tagliani, Ryan-Hunter Reay, Justin Wilson, Tomas Scheckter, as well as NASCAR stars A.J. Allmendinger, Jamie McMurray and Scott Speed, and F1 driver Tonio Liuzzi (Force India).

Alex Tagliani, IndyCar:  It's always fun to see the boys back in the racing paddock - guys like Justin Wilson, A.J. and Tomas Scheckter.  It's great to catch up with them.  Karting is where everybody started their racing career.  It's a no-pressure type attitude in the paddock, so it's a lot different feeling. Everyone here's to see who's going to drive and who's going to do what, so in the beginning it's just a lot of fun, but once we get on the race track that all changes and everybody wants to win.  I started karting when I was 10 years old and I've really never stopped.  I'm still doing it today."

In the end, it was former Champ Car driver Jan Heylen who earned the victory, followed by Speed and F1 pilot Liuzzi.

The show continues through Saturday.

WOLFE PREVIEWS 2010 AT PRI

Orlando, Fla. — Brian Wolfe, director of Ford North America Motorsports, addressed a group at the Performance Racing Industry Show this morning in Orlando, Fla. Here’s a transcript of his remarks.

Thank you, and good morning everyone.

Boy, a lot has happened in the past year, not just for Ford, but also for the entire auto industry.

Looking forward, the outlook for the overall aftermarket industry is certainly better; but there is still a long and rough road ahead.

Of course, today, we are here to share some news about what's happening in the world of Ford Racing, but before we get into that, it’s good to first understand where Ford is going as a car company.

Over the last decade, people have come to know Ford as a great truck company that also makes that car called the Mustang. But we are re-shaping our global resources and updating our product line so in the future we are known as a great car company that also has the world’s best trucks.

We’ve also updated the DNA of our products over the last couple years … we are producing world-class vehicles that handle and brake well, meet the highest standards for safety, are very fuel-efficient, and have quality levels second to none.

And we see some signs that people are taking notice of the changes at Ford, as we have seen a gain in retail market share 13 times in the last 14 months.

Last month, our all-new Taurus and Fusion sales were up 54 percent versus a year ago. And Fusion was just named Motor Trend Car of the Year.

We just introduced Fiesta at the LA Auto Show last week … our first, One Ford global car.

Fiesta will be in showrooms next summer, but there’s already buzz throughout the industry thanks to the Fiesta Movement program and our efforts with Fiesta at Pikes Peak and the X Games this past summer. I have to tell you this is a car born for the aftermarket industry.

Our job at Ford Racing, is to create, produce and race products that make people more enthusiastic about Ford … to get people into our showrooms and to drive our great vehicles.

Our philosophy is to be racer-friendly in all we do, whether we are dealing with the top levels of professional racing, or with the grassroots racer.

I am so proud of how much the Ford Racing team has accomplished over the last year, and would like to give you an overview of the highlights of what we have in our display here at PRI. We decided to split our booth into four distinct areas:
• Street Area
• Road Racing Area
• Circle Track Area
• Drag Racing Area

STREET AREA
In the Street Area, we have our Ford Racing Fiesta, equipped with a Steeda/Ford Racing power upgrades, Ford Racing handling packs, and Ford Racing wheels and brakes.

We also have our Z347 & 427 engines, as well as a ’34 Hot Rod powered by our new EcoBoost engine.

EcoBoost technology is one of the keys to Ford’s future powertrain engine strategies, using direct-injection and turbocharging that allow smaller displacement engines to provide superior fuel economy, while providing the power of larger engines.

We’re also returning to the value-priced segment of the crate engine market with the new X302 engine.

This engine is designed, developed and tested by the same Ford Racing engineers that are responsible for the line for Ford Racing Crate Engines.

• Built with a mix of Ford Racing, Ford production and high quality aftermarket components
• High-value, price point of $3,495 and delivers 340 horsepower
• Wide range of applications, including Mustang, Resto, Kit Car, Hot Rod and off-road applications

ROAD RACING AREA
In the Road Racing Area, we are showing off some very significant accomplishments:
• The championship-winning, Rehagen Racing Mustang FR500C that won the Grand-Am Koni Championship with year with driver Ken Wilden
• The Huffaker 6.0L modular engine that powered Brandon Davis to the Speed World Challenge championship in his Mustang
• And a very cool 2010 Mustang that Paul Fassler just completed for the American Iron Extreme series NASA class

Some of you are also aware of Ford Racing’s plans to build 50 2011 Boss 302-R race cars, which we announced to dealers about a month ago for SCCA and NASA competition, along with a Grand-Am Koni spec version of that car that will replace the successful FR500C.

Also, you’ll see our Formula Ford Kent block that we recently announced we would build again for competitors, featuring improved durability and design attributes that will support other applications like the Cosworth DBA and Lotus Twin-Cam.

CIRCLE TRACK AREA
In the Circle Track Area, we’re introducing Ford Racing S374 Series Sealed Racing Engines. These are factory-engineered and tested to take sealed engine racing to new levels of performance.

The S374 Series represents an industry-first in circle track racing with an OEM engineered and developed sealed racing engine with two power levels—540 hp and 590 hp.

These Sealed Racing Engines address the objective to manage the cost of Short Track asphalt and dirt racing with sealed spec engines while maintaining a high level of competition for racers and fans.

Both engines were developed in conjunction with the key asphalt and dirt track stakeholders in short track racing and they will be in competition early in 2010.

The S374 Series underscores the commitment by Ford Racing to the Sportsman Circle Track Racer and joins the highly successful S347 series of sealed racing engines.

Both versions of the S374 engine are showcased here today:
• S374W wet sump engine is in the Port City Ford Fusion Late Model
• S374D Dry Sump engine is on a display stand

We’re also pleased to announce today that championship-contending Joey Pole Racing is switching to Ford power for the ACT Tour.

• Joey Pole Polewarczyk Jr. is switching from a Chevrolet to Ford Fusion for 2010 and will use the S347JR Ford Racing Sealed engine in his run for the American Canadian Tour Championship.
• Joey is one of the top young drivers in the hotly-contested New England Late Model Stock Car racing, captured two wins and finished fourth in the ACT points this year.
• We welcome Joey and his team to the Ford family and wish them much success next season.

With these added engines we at Ford will have the widest lineup of Sealed Racing Engines for short track racing—our Blue Oval Sealed Racing Engines— that range from 350 to 590 HP.

Finally, we want to show our commitment to Short Track Racing with an expanded racer contingency program for 2010

As part of the commitment, Ford Racing is proud to announce that it has posted race win contingencies with the following Racing Series for the 2010 racing season:
• PASS—Pro All Star Series—North and South
• ACT—American Canadian Tour
• CRA—Championship Racing Association
• UARA—United Auto Racing Association
• ASALMS—ASA Late Model Series
• WISSOTA • NASRA—National All Star Racing Association

DRAG RACING AREA
To start off, we first want to again congratulate Robert Hight of John Force Racing on winning his first NHRA Funny Car Championship.

We are so proud of all our Funny Car teams, with all six Mustang competitors making it to the top 10 in the countdown for the championship in 2009.

We’ve also got big news for Pro Stock competitors.

Earlier this year, we revealed our new 2010 Mustang body at the U.S. Nationals, and we were very pleased that Cunningham Racing won the Best Engineered award.

The new 2010 Mustang body was designed by a team consisting of Don Ness and our Ford Racing aerodynamics experts, and went through extensive wind tunnel testing prior to NHRA approvals to ensure it was second to none in the field.

The new Pro Stock Engine program, led by Mose Nowland, is also causing an enormous amount of excitement.

The new engine is based on a common CGI block design that has a "flexible" core package that allows us to offer two cylinder head derivatives, one featuring a mirror-image port layout, and another featuring a sequential port layout. Both of those configurations are on display here at PRI.

Ford Racing is also offering many of the components needed to complete a Pro Stock engine as well, including valve covers, camshaft spools, crankshaft seal retainers, stud kits, head gaskets, and cam drive.

The new engine made its first test passes at the NHRA Auto Club Finals in Pomona by Cunningham Motorsports drivers Jim Cunningham and Erica Enders.

The Cunningham effort is just one of the Ford Mustang teams we expect to see next year.

• Larry Morgan’s Lucas Oil Mustang will debut at the 2010 Winternationals—his Mustang looks great and Larry has been an exciting addition to the Ford family. He will also run a second Mustang for John Nobile.
• The Purvis Ford name also returns to NHRA with driver Robert Patrick and team owner Eli Patrick. Robert has been running in IHRA and ADRL.
• In addition, IHRA standouts Frank Gugliotta and Richard Freeman are also building new 2010 NHRA Pro Stock Mustangs and are expected to debut by mid-season.

On the Sportsman front, most of you probably have seen the new 2010 version of the CobraJet we introduced at SEMA.

Well, we’re pleased to announce today that the NHRA has officially approved five engine combinations for the new car, which will be built starting in January at the Mustang plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

The engine offerings include:
• All-Al, 500hp 5.4L DOHC S/C SS only
• 435hp 5.4L DOHC S/C
• Three naturally aspirated derivatives: Two small block offerings; 352cid and a 428cid. Along with 281 cid aka 4.6L 3-valve.

These engine combinations allow the Cobra Jet to compete in 52 different Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes.

While the 2010 Cobra Jet was limited to only 50 units, we also offered Mustang Competition Kits for any racer who wanted to build one from the ground up.

These kits were an industry-first, offering optional interior trim, exterior trim, seats, and even a pre-bent 10-point rollcage.

These kits were available for pre-order only until November 15th and, despite a short order window, the kits were a huge success with nearly 40 kits being sold.

Mustang Competition Kits will be delivered in February 2010, immediately following the Cobra Jet build.

Based on demand, we plan to offer Mustang Competition Kits again in 2010, and with the MSRP of the Body-in-White being just $4,995 and of the combination of body, interior & exterior trim kits being just over $8,000, this is a value that is unmatched by our competition.

In addition to our on-track efforts, we also have become the Official Vehicle of the NHRA, as well as official vehicle of the American Drag Racing League.

We will also continue to support our relationship with PSCA, including the very popular Mustang Madness class, and we will return to IHRA in 2010 with new sportsmen contingency postings. And, of course, we will also continue to support MNRA and NMCA racing.

All in all, there’s no question we have made a major commitment to our racing program, not just on the professional classes, but also the sportsman and grassroots ranks.

We feel this involvement will pay off, not just with more competitors racing Fords, but also allowing these racers to become our grassroots ambassadors for Ford and its products throughout the country.

While we have a lot at our booth, we hope you’ll also look at a couple other Ford vehicles on display here at the show. Tim Matherly’s Real Street Mustang and Cale Aronson’s IHRA Pro Stock Mustang are both in the outer lobby.

Thank you.
