SIMONE STRONG IN SEASON OPENER AT DELAWARE

London, ON, Sunday June 6, 2010: Anthony Simone driver of the No. 95 Graphix Factory/Castrol/Bell Chevrolet had what looked like a top five finish within his grasp but with five to go he was spun hard into the back straightaway wall and a 20^th place finish was the result.

Simone, in the first event of 13 in the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule, qualified in the 15^th position.

The Delaware 200 presented by Keystone light would see the No.95 team have a tough start to their day as they had several setbacks throughout the early part of the race. Simone was involved in several minor incidents, but kept fighting back. “The team worked really hard,” said Simone. “We made several chassis adjustments and even came back from being a lap down.”

Simone made his way to the front pack and was running in third with five laps to go when contact with another car sent the No.95 spinning hard into the wall on the back straightaway putting an end to their day and doing significant damage to the Graphix Factory Chevrolet.

“The car was great and we were making a charge to the front at the end of the race,” said a frustrated Simone after the race. “We struggled a bit in qualifying, but got it together for the race and managed to fight our way back. It was a disappointing end to our day, not the way we wanted to start the season.”

DIAPPOINTMENT FOR DILLEY AT DELAWARE

London, ON, Sunday June 6, 2010: Mark Dilley driving the new PartSource/Exide Batteries No. 9 Dodge Avenger kicked off the season with a 12^th place finish.

Dilley started the first 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event in 9^th place in the Keystone Light200 at Delaware Speedway. “We didn’t qualify as well as we had hoped” stated the veteran driver, “but we have a great car.”

More disappointment followed for the No. 9 Part Source/Exide Dodge when it got caught up in a collision on the second lap. “I had nowhere to go” commented Dilley, but the crew got that fixed and after making some chassis adjustments and getting tires, Dilley was making a run for the lead. Charging hard, Dilley took over the lead on lap 131 and maintained it for 25 laps before falling back. “We just didn’t have the tires, we pitted early and it was a good strategy, but I just couldn’t keep up at the end.”

With two laps to go there was a caution and Dilley restarted just outside the top ten. The green-white-checkered finish lead to chaos and Dilley got caught up in one of the wrecks, but still managed to cross the finish line in 12^thin the Keystone Light 200.

PR - SÉRIE SS LUCAS OIL - CANADIAN TIRE 150

La Série SS Lucas Oil débarque avec plus de 30 bolides pour le Canadian Tire 150.

C’est avec plus de 30 pilotes que la Série SS Lucas Oil fera sa première visite en 2010 à l’autodrome Montmagny samedi le 12 et dimanche le 13 juin.

Les amateurs pourront voir en piste la division Intermédiaire avec la jeune sensation de 14 ans Alex Montminy de Lévis dans la voiture #18 et aussi l’ancien champion 2008 de Sprint 750 sur terre battue de l’autodrome Montmagny, Christopher Daigle #62 de Neuville. Il faut aussi annoncer le retour d’un pilote local soit : Claude Albert de Cap St-Ignace #48 qui fera ses premiers tours de piste depuis la saison 2008 en SS. Entre 12 et 15 pilotes prendront le départ dans une finale de 50 tours.

Dans la division ÉLITE, Ce sera le Canadian Tire 150 qui volera la vedette. 22 voitures prendront le départ pour une finale de 150 tours sur le drapeau vert. Les pilotes à surveiller seront Sylvain Labbé #40 de St-Joseph qui domine le classement avec 116 points, Simon Roussin #66 de Québec à 110, Tony Côté de Beauceville avec 108, Marc Bégin de St-Philibert avec 104, sans oublier le champion 2009 Martin Latulippe #84 qui sera en piste avec la ferme intention d’aligner une deuxième victoire d’affiler à Montmagny.

Les 3 classes locales soit : Kamikaze, Sport Compactes et Limité vivront quand à eux un programme double lors de cette fin de semaine avec 2 finale en 2 jours.

Le dimanche nous auront aussi la visite de l’Association VINTAGE avec les belles d’autres fois du Stock car québécois.

PR - OCR GAZ BAR SCORES TOP-TEN FINISH

DEREK WHITE SCORES TOP-TEN FINISH AT DELAWARE

June 6, 2010. Racer Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team have worked extremely hard during the off season preparing for their first year of competition in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. At race number one of the season, The Keystone Light 200, at Delaware Speedway near London, Ontario the team’s efforts were rewarded with a splendid seventh place finish.

The #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar team worked tirelessly during practice but didn’t quite have the car handling perfectly. White would only be able to manage a seventeenth place starting spot on the grid and knew he would have to be patient despite the rain showers that were approaching.

When the 200 lap event began White kept to his approach. “I just waited, waited and saved my tires, saved gas and let the guys battle it out” said the driver. “You’ve got to be so patient and let the race come to you” he added. The #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar driver was rewarded for his efforts as he began to make progress in the field.

Despite the threat of an early end the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar car driver maintained his approach and further improved his position late in the race. “I just stayed calm and waited for chances to snake through the mayhem out there” he smiled. “There were a lot of guys who were a lap down that were trying to get it all back and I just kept steady, tried to hold a good pace and did my best to avoid all the contact he added.

The 200 lap event would have a total of thirteen caution periods for 101 laps and through it all the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar car driver Derek White maintained his composure and finished with a seventh place result. “I was a bit lucky for sure, I don’t know how I got through it all, a couple of them were really close but this is the first top-ten I’ve had and I love it. I’m really excited and that’s the way to start the year. I’m ready for that road course next week” he concluded.

MICKS HAS UP AND DOWN DAY AT DELAWARE

London, ON, Sunday June 6, 2010: After an up and down day at the first event on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 2010 tour Kerry Micks brought the No. 02 Beyond Digital Imaging/Dickies Ford Fusion across the finish line in 9th.

Micks started the day with a great practice run where he posted the forth quickest time and qualified even better, putting the 02 BDI/Dickies Ford Fusion in third place to start the race.

Micks stated that he was thrilled with qualifying, “This is a brand new car so we were able to see what it’s capable of.”

The first 10 laps of the Keystone Light 200 were not looking good for Micks as he ended up at the back of the pack, but he fought hard and was running as high as forth when he got a flat tire and went down a lap late in the race. Luck, however, was on Kerry’s side when there was a caution with two laps to go and he was the benefactor of the free pass award therefore got his lap back. Micks restarted the race at the back of the pack and was able to avoid the wrecks on the last lap to finish in sixth place.

After the race Kerry commented that “The car was great for most of the race, but there were a lot of ups and downs. We managed to lead a lap so all in all it was a great learning experience and I’m looking forward to next week”

PR- Alain Bergeron - Un autre top 10 pour Alain Bergeron à Granby

Saint-Pie, QC … Alain Bergeron et son équipe étaient, hier soir Vendredi, à l'Autodrome Granby pour participer au programme de course de la série 'Empire Super Sprints' (ESS).

Le pilote de Saint-Pie-de-Bagot a terminé dans le top 10, soit au sixième rang lors de la finale A-Main. Quatrième sur la grille de départ, Bergeron a perdu une position au départ alors que la voiture a tout simplement manqué d'adhérence. Le pilote québécois a, par la suite, perdu une autre position en tentant le haut de la piste. 'Il fallait tenter quelque chose car il semblait n'y avoir qu'une 'groove' au bas de la piste' de mentionner le pilote. Il s'est avéré que le haut de la piste n'offrait pas plus d'adhérence. C'est donc sixième que Bergeron passa le quadrillé. Lors de sa qualification, Bergeron a terminé au second rang pour se qualifier directement en finale A-Main. Ce soir, tous se retrouvent à l'Autodrome Drummond pour une autre soirée en compagnie des pilotes de la série ESS.

C’est donc tout une fin de semaine qui attend les amateurs et Alain Bergeron.

102 inscriptions pour le premier programme

Le promoteur André Fortier de l’Autodrome St-Valère.com avait raison d’être satisfait puisque l’on a reçu 102 inscriptions pour le premier programme qui s’est déroulé, hier après-midi (samedi) à l’Autodrome St-Valère.com. Malheureusement, la deuxième portion qui devait avoir lieu aujourd’hui, a dû être annulée.

« Il a plu beaucoup en soirée et ce matin, lorsque nous sommes arrivés à la piste, nous nous sommes rendus compte rapidement qu’il serait impossible d’y faire des courses. Ce n’est cependant que partie remise et on se reprendra lors du week-end des 26 et 27 juin, tout en espérant que cette fois, nous pourrons présenter le programme en entier » , de dire monsieur Fortier.

Cependant, voici quelques résultats de cette première journée. Comme partout ailleurs, c’est dans la catégorie des quatre cylindres que l’on retrouve le plus grand nombre de participants. Pour ne point décourager les débutants, on a même divisé le groupe en deux en classifiant les meilleurs en super 4.

Dans la première, François Dupuis de Princeville est celui qui a triomphé en finale devant Johnny Allaire de St-Fortunat et Danny Hébert de Victoriaville. Allaire conduisait une Toyota Célica alors que ces adversaires étaient au volant de voitures Honda Civic. En Super 4, classe qui regroupait 16 partants, Carl Poudrier de St-Christophe après avoir remporté la deuxième qualification, en a fait autant dans la finale. Ses victimes ont été Martin Landry de Tingwick et François Champigny de Victoriaville.

En six cylindres, le gagnant a été Dany Bouchard de Victoriaville qui conduisait une Pontiac Grand Prix alors qu’en huit cylindres, Éric Fontaine de Bécancour en a fait autant. Il pilotait une Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Puis dans les catégories un peu plus spéciales mais très spectaculaires, Gabriel Caouette de Norbertville a dominé chez les camionnettes, tandis qu’en pro-stock, c’est Samuel Charland de Warwick qui en a fait autant.

Chez les dames, mentionnons les victoires de Nicole Bossé de Victoriaville sur Dodge Neon en quatre cylindres alors que chez les six et huit cylindres, c’est Nancy Marcotte de St-Samuel qui a pris place sur la première marche du podium.

En classe modifiée, on dénombrait seulement trois participants et c’est Francis Labonté qui a été le meilleur alors qu’un autre Labonté s’est illustré dans la nouvelle catégorie sportsman.

En effet, Denis « La Peste » Labonté de Victoriaville qui a fait parler de lui plus souvent qu’à son tour sur les pistes de Granby et Drummondville, n’a rien perdu de fougue et de son coup de volant. On le comprendra facilement, il a dominé lors de cette première journée devant six adversaires qui comptent bien se reprendre lors du prochain programme. Stéphane Courtois de Victoriaville et Steve Ramsay de St-Christophe l’ont accompagné sur le podium d’honneur.

Tel que mentionné précédemment, le prochain rendez-vous à l’Autodrome St-Valère.com aura lieu les 26 et 27 juin prochains.

La pluie a forcé l’annulation

ST-EUSTACHE – Malgré une averse en début d’après-midi, les dirigeants de l’autodrome de St-Eustache avaient asséché la piste ovale pour que les compétiteurs des sept classes en compétition puissent effectuer leurs essais préparatoires avant les qualifications prévues à 17h.

Une fois la réunion des pilotes terminée à 16h30, la pluie redoutée s’est remise à tomber avec plus d’intensité ce qui a forcé les dirigeants à mettre un terme aux activités.

« Lorsqu’il pleut en début d’après-midi et que le soleil revient comme ce fut le cas aujourd’hui, il est possible, en quelques minutes d’assécher la piste. Mais en début de soirée et avec des prévisions pessimistes pour les prochaines heures, il est devenait impensable de pouvoir présenter des courses dans ces conditions, » a précisé le promoteur/propriétaire Alan Labrosse au moment d’annoncer sa décision d’annuler le reste de la journée.

« Nous annoncerons au début de la semaine prochaine les dates sur notre site Internet (www.autodrome.ca) pour la reprise de certaines courses que nous aurions présentées normalement ce samedi. Pour le week-end prochain nous avions prévu exclusivement des activités de motos en circuit routier, mais on étudiera maintenant la possibilité d’avoir des courses de stock-car sur l’ovale le samedi soir. »

C’est la deuxième fois en ce début de saison que la première course pour la série ProCam Cummins à l’autodrome doit être remise en raison de la pluie.

NCTS - DJ KENNINGTON WINS

DJ KENNINGTON DEFENDS NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES TITLE AT DELAWARE

St. Thomas driver wins the Keystone Light 200 presented by the Fleetwood Country Cruize-in

Delaware, ON (June 5, 2010) DJ Kennington is still the only driver to win a NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race at Delaware Speedway. The St. Thomas, Ontario, driver won the Keystone Light 200 presented by the Fleetwood Country Cruize-in, the 2010 series’ opening race, hosted by Delaware.

After starting from the pole, Kennington led the first 75 laps. He was briefly passed for the lead by Steven Matthews (no. 15) at lap 77 but Kennington regained top spot a lap later and continued out front until pitting at lap 89. When Kennington pitted, JR Fitzpatrick (no. 84) became the third different leader of the race. Like Kennington, Fitzpatrick later surrendered the lead when he made a pit stop, giving up the top spot to Pete Shepherd (no. 7) at lap 106. Despite having to come back through the field, Kennington and Fitzpatrick were destined to meet again.

Shepherd held off the field until lap 131, when Mark Dilley became the fifth different race leader, coming from the ninth starting position to pace the field.

At lap 156, Ron Sheridan (no. 52) gave the hometown fans a thrill when he passed Dilley for the lead, the sixth lead change of the night. Dilley took the front spot away two laps later, only to be overcome by Kennington, who had come through the field through the second half of the race.

A late-race wreck involving Anthony Simone (no. 95) brought out a red flag in an effort to finish the race under green flag conditions. The resulting restart was a wild, rough-and-tumble affair that saw Fitzpatrick restart second on Kennington’s outside. Fitzpatrick nearly lost control of his car in between turns three and four as he pushed it just past its limits in an effort to get past Kennington, his rival and good friend.

The final lap saw Sheridan tied up in an incident in turn two, taking away what looked to be a podium finish. Several other cars spun out in other parts of the race track as the leaders took the checkered flag.

For Kennington, the finish marked a successful repeat of his victory one year ago, in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series’ debut at Delaware Speedway. Fitzpatrick was second and Jeff Lapcevich (no. 23) finished third.

After the incident on the final lap, Sheridan ended up eleventh, however his finish does not do justice to how strong his number 52 car was. In his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series debut, the Delaware Speedway weekly competitor ran inside the top five the entire second half of the race, giving himself a chance to win. Another former Delaware Speedway weekly competitor, Jason Hathaway (no. 3) was also running strong at the end but was tied up in the same incident that ruined Sheridan’s chances. Hathaway finished tenth.

Ace PASS win makes it two in a row for Loden

Naples, ME 6/5/10- Andy Loden’s high, wide, and handsome move to the outside of Jay Fogleman on lap ninety-one of Friday night’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Piedmont Pride 150 at Ace Speedway sealed his second career PASS South series super late model victory in less than a week. Point leader Preston Peltier continued his consistent streak with a second place finish followed by Jimmy Weller with a career best third. Two young guns in Devin Jones and Stephen Nasse rounded out the top five.

The Piedmont Pride 150 marked the series’ first trip to the pristine 4/10^th mile facility and it showed early and often in the first twenty five laps. The yellow flag was displayed four times in the first fourteen laps including a red flag situation coming out for the night’s first incident on lap four. Several drivers had their race cut short including third place points man Heath Hindman who had the hardest hit of the night when his #91 RTV Chevy Impala pounded the turn one wall mid air.

Once green flag racing got underway, constant side by side battles for the lead between veteran Jay Fogleman and series newcomer Andy Loden ensued. The two would take turns leading all the while opening a significant lead over Preston Peltier through the first ninety-one laps. Meanwhile Justin Wakefield was chopping his way through the field with lap times faster than the leaders. Wakefield would make his way all the way up to battle a fading Jay Fogleman for second when the two tangled, sending a fast Wakefield spinning and out of contention for the win.

Wakefield’s spin bunched the field up, giving all challengers a fair shot at leader Loden but no one came even close to the top spot. Loden and his Monroe Roadways race team earned their second career PASS South series victory just six days apart from their first.

STEVE SMITH WINS HIS SECOND SUPER STOCK RACE OF THE SEASON!

(June 5, 2010) A very exciting night at Delaware Speedway with a festival atmosphere and lots of activity as we hosted the opening race in the 13-series NASCAR Canadian Tire Series; The Keystone Light 200 presented by Fleetwood Country Cruize-In.

A big crowd was on hand to witness Delaware Super Stocks complete a 50 lap race, twice the usual length. Steve Smith proved his season-opening win back in mid-May was no fluke.

It was a fast race with just a couple of brief cautions; one on lap 14 as Dave Chant took a spin on the back straightaway. DJ Dejesus had to hit pit road briefly but was quickly back on the track. Jared Shields led the race, even after rubbing the wall on lap 17. Andrew Perkins’s spin on lap 26 closed Shield’s gap and on lap 32 when Smith made a hard run on turn one, Shields swerved and lost some traction, dropping back to fifth.

Smith was followed by Jeremy Reid, and Stephen Richmond.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race, the Keystone Light 200 presented by the Fleetwood Country Cruize-in, will begin at 8:00 pm – a half hour earlier than scheduled due to the threat of rain this evening. RAIN SHORTENS SCHEDULE AT DELAWARE SPEEDWAY

Steve Book wins Transmission Direct Enduro Race

Heavy rain and some thunderstorm activity put a temporary halt to the action at Delaware Speedway 5 laps into the Demar Aggregate Trucks feature race. Devon Bloemendal , winner of the night’s first Truck heat, had been leading with Matt Korcina in second when the 25 lap feature was called because of the weather.

After a 45-minute delay to allow the worst of the storm pass over the half-mile track, the Transmission Direct Enduro cars came off pit road for their 35 lapper.

Doug Capp was the early leader and several cars endured some slipping and sliding in the first few laps but were able to right themselves. Steve Book took over the lead on lap 9 and held on to win the race despite a bumper-to-bumper threat from David McCullough, who had won the division’s second heat earlier in the night. Piet Blaaubeor made several impressive runs to avoid ending third but that’s where he landed.

On lap 19, Capp had an apparent mechanical problem and had to leave the track.

The race’s only caution was called on lap 23 as Dave Goertz hit the wall in turn three and sustained some damage to the right front of his #15.

The other Transmission Direct Enduro heat race was taken by Todd Head.

The second Demar Aggregate Truck heat was won by Paul Fothergill.

NASCAR Late Model Heats were won by Dion Verhoeven and Scott Lindsay.

Tomorrow, race fans and drivers from all over this country and parts of the U.S. will be at Delaware Speedway for the opening race in the NASCAR Canadian Tires Series. The action starts long before the big race. The main gate opens at 1 pm so fans can watch some of the best racers in Canada run through their practice laps. Super Stock time trials begin at 4:30 with the main Super Stock race at 6, NCATS time trials at 5:15 and the main race at 8 pm.

Lots of campers are taking advantage of Delaware Speedway’s campground this weekend and there’s a festival atmosphere at the track with plenty of displays on Saturday and of course, lots of great food provided by the concessions.

ACT CASTROL EDGE - REMIS

Les dirigeants de l’autodrome Chaudière et de la série ACT Castrol Edge n’ont eu guère le choix. Face à une pluie qui s’est installée et des prévisions météo qui annoncent de la pluie en continue la course prévue samedi le 5 juin sera reportée à une date ultérieur.

Autodrome Chaudiere and ACT Castrol Edge officials had little option. With persistant rain and weather forecast calling for more of the same they had to postpone the event scheduled for June 5^th.

Les officiels de l'autodrome Chaudière ont proposés aux pilotes et aux officiels de l'ACT une reprise vendredi prochain, soit le 11 juin. Dans le cas échéant, selon des sources près de l’organisation de l’autodrome Chaudière ont parle d’une reprise possiblement le 21 août prochain.

Samedi à l’autodrome de St-Eustache

Une soirée de 8 finales dans 7 classes avec
un gros défi en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel

ST-EUSTACHE – Il y a deux semaines, lors de la première finale de 100 tours en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel sur l’ovale de l’autodrome St-Eustache, le jeune Steve Côté a démontré à tous qu’il avait bien préparé sa saison 2010 avec l’intention de détrôner le champion en titre, Jonathan Bouvrette qui a dû se contenter d’une deuxième place.

L’heure de la revanche aura-t-elle sonnée samedi soir alors qu’on présentera une soirée de courses très intéressante à l’autodrome de St-Eustache avec huit finales pour les compétiteurs de sept classes différentes ?

« Pour un programme dit « régulier » on s’attend à une très grosse soirée, précise le promoteur/propriétaire Alan Labrosse. Les amateurs et spectateurs seront choyés car en plus nous attendons un nombre plus élevé de participants dans toutes les classes que lors de notre première soirée sur ovale. Tout le monde est assuré d’un spectacle de qualité à un coût abordable de 20 dollars.

« Il y aura une finale dans toutes les classes, sauf pour la série Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel alors que les compétiteurs disputeront deux finales de 50 tours avec un arrêt obligatoire… limité à six minutes. De plus, les huit premiers à l’arrivée du premier 50 tours seront invités à inverser leur position pour le départ de la deuxième course.

« Les mécaniciens auront seulement six minutes pour travailler sur les voitures et les pilotes n’ont pas le droit de sortir de leur voiture. Ceux qui ne respecteront pas ce six minutes devront partir à l’arrière, » d’ajouter Alan Labrosse heureux de confirmer cette nouveauté dans les procédures en 2010.

Une offre à prendre ou à laisser !

De plus, pour ajouter du piquant, le gagnant du premier 50 tours se verra offrir une proposition monétaire difficile à refuser.

« S’il accepte de partir de l’arrière, on lui offrira immédiatement un boni de 200 $ qui s’ajoutera à sa bourse. S’il remportait la victoire, on lui remettrait un 300 dollars supplémentaires en plus de la bourse de 1 100 dollars, » de conclure le promoteur/propriétaire.

La question : qui sera le premier à vouloir relever le défi ? Ce sera très intéressant à surveiller, aucun doute possible.

D’autre part, au cours des dernières journées le vétéran André Coursol a confirmé qu’on ne le reverra pas en piste dans cette classe et c’est son fils Dave qui va conduire son ancienne voiture en plus de celle en Sport Compact NASCAR Lucas Oil. L’objectif avoué est de lui permettre d’acquérir rapidement de l’expérience.

On complétera cette soirée avec des finales en Sport Compact NASCAR Lucas Oil, en Pro-Cam Cummins (reprise du programme remis en mai) et la spectaculaire série Rev-Star ABF en plus des classes de soutien :

· Production ANCA Chiniara SN.

Brièvement

Isabelle Tremblay, victime d’un accrochage lors de la première course de la saison a complété les travaux de réparation sur sa voiture et elle ambitionne de reléguer rapidement aux oubliettes cette mésaventure.
Au cours des derniers jours, Normand Lavigueur, Benoit Beauchamp, Alain Lachapelle et Guillaume Daoust ont confirmé qu’ils seront en piste pour cette deuxième soirée.
Pour les compétiteurs de la série Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel, on ajoutera deux bonis de 100$ versés par Bouvrette Électrique et Construction Sylvain Côté aux détenteurs de la 10^e et de la 12^e place.
On fera également tiré au sort deux bonis de 125 dollars parmi ceux qui termineront entre la sixième et la dernière position, une courtoisie de Construction Charest.
La vente des billets réservés pour la présentation de la course NASCAR Canadian Tire dans un mois, le samedi 3 juillet, sont maintenant en vente aux bureaux de l’autodrome St-Eustache.
À l’issue de la première soirée de courses, les dirigeants de l’autodrome St-Eustache ont dû sévir contre les pilotes Pat Bélanger, Claude Boucher et Patrick Leporé.
Les dirigeants de la série Pro-Cam Cummins, dont le promoteur Rhéal Carpentier, mentionnent qu’il y aura 18 camionnettes en piste pour cette première course de la saison pour eux.
Les dirigeants de l’autodrome St-Eustache ont décidé de revenir à ce qui était très populaire il y a quelques années, l’ouverture du troisième étage VIP pour répondre à ceux qui désirent assister à cette soirée tout en ayant droit à un souper complet. On peut réserver en s’adressant à la direction.
