Un problème de suspension met un terme à la course Rzadzinski


Montréal, 17 août 2014 - L'Albertain Stefan Rzadzinski, qui remplaçait Alex Tagliani, a été contraint à l'abandon samedi soir lors de la huitième étape de la Série NASCAR Canadian Tire (NCATS) disputée sur l'ovale du Riverside International Speedway à Antigonish en Nouvelle-Écosse.


Pour la deuxième fois de la saison, Rzadzinski s'est retrouvé au volant de la Dodge numéro 18 EpiPen/Dicom Express/MFP Resources en relève au pilote de Lachenaie qui disputait samedi une épreuve de la Série NASCAR Nationwide à Mid-Ohio. Qualifié au sixième rang sur l'ovale d'un tiers de mille du Riverside Speedway, Rzadzinski a maintenu la cadence jusqu'au 63e des 300 tours de la course avant d'être victime d'un bris de suspension causé par un affrontement entre sa voiture et le mur du troisième virage de la piste.


« La journée avait pourtant bien débuté avec cette sixième place sur la grille de départ, a déclaré Rzadzinski. En course, je suivais le peloton de tête jusqu'à cette sortie de piste qui a mis fin à ma journée. »


Une victoire à saveur locale
Le Wilson Equipment 300 a été remporté par Donald Chisholm d'Antigonish qui a dominé la journée du samedi. Le pilote néo-écossais a décroché la pole, et il a mené la course à trois reprises pour un total de 103 tours dont les 40 derniers pour inscrire sa première victoire en série. Alex Labbé, de Saint-Albert au Québec a terminé deuxième, son meilleur résultat à ce jour en NCATS. L'Ontarien DJ Kennington a pris le troisième rang devant Andrew Ranger. Seulement ces quatre pilotes ont complété les 300 tours de la course. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, parti en fond de grille après avoir changé le moteur de sa Dodge, a terminé au sixième rang à un tour du vainqueur.


Classement
Au classement, Dumoulin est toujours premier avec 337 points, mais Ranger a rejoint JR Fitzpatrick au deuxième rang. Ils totalisent 311 points chacun. Absent de l'épreuve, Tagliani a glissé au 10e rang.


Le pilote québécois avait choisi de participer à sa deuxième course de la saison en série NASCAR Nationwide à Mid-Ohio avec Team Penske, où il a terminé au cinquième rang. Tagliani avait ralenti la cadence sur les ordres du directeur de l'équipe Penske, après que Sam Hornish Jr de l'équipe Joe Gibbs Racing, le principal adversaire de Penske dans la course au championnat des propriétaires, avait dû abandonner au 50e des 90 tours la course. Penske ayant choisi la prudence afin de rallier l'arrivée en bonne posture. Le cinquième rang de Tagliani a permis à Penske de passer en tête du classement des propriétaires d'équipe. 


Prochaine étape occupée pour Tagliani à Mosport
La neuvième étape de la série NASCAR canadienne sera présentée le dimanche 31 août sur le circuit routier du Canadian Tire Motorsport Park en Ontario. Alex Tagliani sera un pilote fort occupé le week-end de Mosport puisqu'en plus de piloter la Dodge numéro 18 EpiPen/Dicom Express/Sennheiser, il sera également au volant de la Ford F-150 numéro 19 de l'équipe Brad Keselowski lors de la 14e étape de la série de camionnettes NASCAR Camping World.

Steckly's Day Ends Early at Riverside Speedway

 

The eighth race in the 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by  Mobil 1 was held at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on Saturday.  Steckly's weekend looked to be going well when a part failure saw him spin and back the Canadian Tire/Sylvania Dodge hard into the wall.

 

The team tried some new things during the first practice session but weren't happy with the results so they went back to the drawing board for the second round of practice.  The results were good as Steckly was scored as the fourth quickest car.

 

Qualifying was up next and the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge was fifth to take to the track.  When the final car had timed, Steckly was third quickest, giving him the second position on the inside row for the start of the Wilson Equipment 300 later in the evening.

 

The 300 lap race was going according to plan as Steckly was running his line and sizing up the competition when a brake rotor broke on lap 42 and the 22 Racing Dodge slammed the wall hard in turn one. It would be an early night for the team as the car was too badly damaged to try to repair and return to the race.   "Really there is nothing you can do when a part like that fails," said Steckly after the race.  "We knew we had a car to run up front again tonight and I was just biding my time following a couple of other guys when a part in the brakes broke.  It has been that type of year for us but we just have to keep smiling and working hard and we know the better finishes will come." A 15th place finish was the final result.

 

The Wilson Equipment 300 from Riverside Speedway will air Sat. Aug. 23rd at 2:30 p.m. ET on TSN and Thurs. Sept. 11th at 8 p.m. on RDS2.

ANTIGONISH, N.S. (Aug. 16, 2014) – Donald Chisholm scored an emotional and convincing victory in front of the hometown crowd as he took his first career NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 checkered flag in Saturday's Wilson Equipment 300 at Riverside International Speedway.

 

The victory for Chisholm, from Antigonish, came in his 16th career start. A part-time competitor since 2007, he became the 15th different winner in Canadian Tire Series history.

 

Chisholm, whose family owns Riverside, captured the victory less than two months after his father and track founder, John, passed away. Chisholm also earned his first career pole earlier in the evening.

 

Chisholm was followed across the finish line by only three other lead lap cars: Alex Labbe, D.J. Kennington and Andrew Ranger. Both Kennington and Ranger passed Chisholm in the closing laps to rejoin the lead lap.

 

Mark Dilley, points leader L.P. Dumoulin, J.R. Fitzpatrick, Noel Dowler and rookies John Flemming and Matthew Scannell brought home the top 10.

 

Jason Hathaway appeared poised to defend his Riverside win from a year ago. He was cruising in the lead when he collided with the spun Flemming car while navigating lap traffic on Lap 240.

 

The Wilson Equipment 300 will premiere on TSN on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 2:30 p.m., and on RDS2 on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m.

 

The Canadian Tire Series will return to action with the Pinty's presents the Clarington 200 on Aug. 31 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ont.

Montréal, 16 août 2014 - Alex Tagliani a terminé au cinquième rang lors de la 22e étape de la Série NASCAR Nationwide disputée samedi sur le circuit routier de Mid-Ohio. Qualifié au deuxième rang, sur la première ligne, au volant de sa Ford Mustang Discount Tire no 22 du Team Penske derrière le détenteur de la pole, l'Américain Sam Hornish, Tagliani s'est maintenu dans le peloton des cinq premiers tout au long de la course, hormis lors d'arrêts hors séquence des équipes adverses et à la suite d'une pénalité pour vitesse excessive de cinq m/h à la sortie des stands lors de son premier ravitaillement.


Revenu en piste au 12e rang au premier tiers de cette course de 90 tours, le pilote de Lachenaie est remonté en sixième position lors de la deuxième relance de la course, et il s'est même pointé au second rang au 52e passage. Différentes stratégies d'arrêts aux puits n'ont pas permis au pilote québécois d'être une menace pour l'éventuel vainqueur Chris Buescher, qui a inscrit sa première victoire dans la Série NASCAR Nationwide. Regan Smith a terminé deuxième, suivi de Brian Scott et Chase Elliott.


« Mid-Ohio était une étape importante pour Team Penske dans sa lutte pour le championnat des propriétaires d'équipe face à celle de Joe Gibbs Racing, leur principal rival dans cette lutte, a déclaré Tagliani. Je devais marquer le maximum de points, et lorsque Sam Hornish Jr a retraité aux puits pour réparer, mon directeur d'équipe m'a indiqué que la stratégie d'équipe venait de changer et que mon but était de rallier l'arrivée en bonne position et la voiture dans un seul morceau. »

Masterson tops Late Models after 10 lead changes

WEST HAVEN, VT – Joey "Fireball" Roberts sat through a half-hour rain delay and braved cool temperatures on Friday night at Devil's Bowl Speedway, but the wait was worth it – Roberts dominated Brown's Quarried Slate/Brown's Orchard & Farm Stand Night for his second Bond Auto Parts Modified victory of the season.  He was joined as a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series winner during the evening by Josh Masterson, Stephen Donahue, and Mike Whalen, Jr.

Roberts was as hot as his nickname suggests, winning both his qualifying heat and the 25-lap main event, leading every lap he turned around the half-mile during the night.  The Fletcher, VT driver was nearly eliminated from championship contention in a hard crash last week, but the No. 50X Body LeBronze/Queen City Steel-sponsored Bicknell rebounded convincingly for Roberts' fourth career win at Devil's Bowl.

"There was a lot of work that went into this car this past week, and I've got to thank everyone on my team and all my sponsors for stepping up.  This is a big win for us," Roberts said.  "We're in a little bit of hole in the points, but we're not giving up on the championship yet."

Vince Quenneville, Jr. finished second in the race with Jason Durgan third.  Leon Gonyo and Jessey Mueller completed the top five finishers.  Point leader Todd Stone ran seventh, helping Gonyo and Roberts inch closer with four feature races remaining.  Stone now leads Gonyo by 38 points, unofficially, 770-732, with Roberts third at 719.

"Kid Rocket" Josh Masterson of Bristol, VT won an intense 30-lap Late Model feature for his fourth win of the season.  Polesitter Bucko Branham traded the lead with Robert Bryant, Jr., six times in first half of the race.  A restart at lap 15 helped Masterson get past Branham, but he ran side-by-side with Bryant for the remainder of the event, with the pair trading the lead four more times.

Masterson pulled ahead on the final lap to take the win, with Bryant second.  Point leader Jamie Fisher finished third, while Branham slipped to fourth.  In his first appearance of the season, Dan Petronis recovered from a mid-race spin to finish fifth.  Fisher now holds just a single-point advantage on Masterson for the championship lead, 564-563.  The results and standings for the Late Model division are currently unofficial pending post-race technical inspection.

Mike Whalen, Jr. of Plattsburgh, NY ran to his second Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock victory of the season after a wild 20-lap event.  Whalen stayed broke out to the lead in the early laps, but was forced to reckon with point leader Chuck Bradford and Bobby LaVair – who each crashed in separate incidents on lap 4 – in the final circuits.  Whalen held on to win ahead of Bradford, LaVair, Matt Monaghan, and Chris LaVair.

Sixteen year-old Stephen Donahue of Graniteville, VT made up for lost time in the Renegade division with his third win of the year.  Donahue missed last week with a blown engine, but came back in style to win the 15-lap feature.  Point leader Robert Gordon finished second with early race leader Scott FitzGerald third.

The New England Antique Racers club brought an impressive field of restored racers to Devil's Bowl for a pair of 10-lap races.  Joe Keefner won the Modified feature in the Gremlin-bodied car that Ray Liss drove to the 1977 championship at Flemington (NJ) Speedway, while Barry Roy took the Sportsman race in a flathead Hudson that won many races at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT with Tony Colicchio at the controls in the early 1960s.

The Daredevil "community" racing division provided the craziest action of the night, as five race fans drawn at random competed in a group of track-owned cars.  James Price stepped out to the early lead before a second-lap melee sent three cars bouncing through the infield and left Billy Jones with a flat tire.  Willie Rice of Poultney, VT survived the accident to catch Price in the final corner and steal the win.  Randy Disorda and Stephen Beayon were next in line, while Jones was forced to retire early.

Devil's Bowl Speedway wraps up its regular Friday night season on August 22 with "Double Stack Night" presented by Sugar & Spice Restaurant.  All four of the track's weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will race double features, while Sugar & Spice presents the third annual Great North American Pancake Eating Championship at intermission.  Regular general admission is just $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (age 62+), and free for children age 12 and under. The "Fans First" program will give free admission to residents of Poultney, VT who present valid identification.  Gates open at 5:00 p.m., with racing at 7:00 p.m.

SPÉCIAL FAMILLE REMIS AU VENDREDI 22 AOÛT!

Suite aux conditions météo imprévisibles et incertaines pour les prochaines heures, Le SPÉCIAL FAMILLE qui devait avoir lieu ce soir samedi 16 août à l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction
EST REMIS AU VENDREDI 22 AOÛT 19H30 avec ouverture au public à compter de 16h30, promenade des enfants sur la piste à 18h45 et le programme à 19h30.

La saison avance et selon les ententes avec notre commanditaire du SPÉCIAL FAMILLE, nous nous devons de reprendre le programme tout en respectant les promoteurs des autres pistes.

Par contre si le programme n'a pas lieu vendredi le 22 août, il n'y aura pas de remise et il sera simplement annulé, par respect pour le CANAM ACT 200 du samedi 23 août qui aura lieu au Riverside Speedway de Ste-Croix et du Montmagny 250 le 31 Août.

D'ailleurs si le SPÉCIAL FAMILLE est présenté le 22 août, il nous fera plaisir de publiciser les deux événements.

Airborne drivers vying for NASCAR state and national honors

SOUTH PLATSBURGH – For Airborne Sportsman Modified drivers Nick Heywood and Jason Durgan of Plattsburgh, Travis Bruno of Morrisonville and Mark Lamberton of Mooers Forks, the final three nights of the regular season, including tonight's program, are increasingly significant.

 

Airborne races under NASCAR sanction this year for the first time since the formation of the All-American Whelen Series, which names national and state champions based on a point system that considers the J&S Steel Sportsman Modifieds as Airborne's lead division and the four Sportsman Modified title contenders as "rookies".

 

Heywood, driver of the Budweiser/Warren Tire No. 29, is the defending Airborne Sportsman champion. His victory on MX Fuels/Gordon Oil Night last Saturday pushed him to the top of the track championship standings – three points better than Bruno and 21 points ahead of Lamberton.

 

In the New York State NASCAR standings – where the last Airborne regular to win a Sportsman championship was Hall-of-Famer Dick Nephew of Mooers in 1964, Heywood (554) leads Bruno (501) and Lamberton (490). In the category of NASCAR National Rookie of the Year – Heywood, ranked 12th overall, is the leading rookie by a 32-point margin over Durgan.

 

The Sportsman Modifieds are slated for a 30-lap feature on tonight's card which is headlined by the Champlain Smiles 100 for the ACT-type Ground Round Late Models and includes race car rides for kids. The Late Model 100 pays $1,200 to win.

 

Also in action – the Key RD Trailer Sales Renegades and the Busch Mini Modifieds. Post time is 6 p.m. Admission is $12/adults – kids 12 and under admitted free.
