Ranger Passes Elliott on Final Lap for Second Road Win in ARCA

(MILLVILLE, N.J.) - On Canada Day, etching his name into ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards history seemed only fitting for Roxton Pond, Quebec's Andrew Ranger.

 

Ranger (No. 53 RRT Design & Construction Dodge) became the first driver in ARCA's 60 years to win two road course races after passing 16-year-old phenom Chase Elliott (No. 9 Aaron's Dream Machine/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet) on the last lap to win at New Jersey Motorsports Park's Thunderbolt Raceway.

 

Ranger, 25, also won on New Jersey's road course last year. His late move past Elliott was reminiscent of his pass over George Miedecke only slightly earlier last year, as the two drove to the white flag. This year, Ranger passed at the other end of New Jersey's main straightway, just as he and Elliott drove into the first turn on Lap 67 of 67.

 

"I'm really happy," said Ranger, who used a second pit stop to his advantage and had to claw back from 12th place just after the race's halfway point. "RRT supported us this weekend and I'm really, really happy to win another race for them. It's a fun team and a fun track. The 53 team and RRT have been awesome this weekend."

 

Chad Hackenbracht (No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet) led the first five laps after winning the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell over Ranger on Saturday afternoon, but gave way to Ranger on Lap 6 and experienced mechanical trouble. He finished just 13 laps and ended the race 26th.

 

The Canadian quickly increased his advantage to 4.238 seconds at Lap 10 and more than twice that four laps later. Alex Bowman (No. 22 St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Dodge) had moved to second on Lap 12 by passing Tom Hessert (No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet), but he trailed Ranger by more than 18 seconds at Lap 24.

 

Matt Lofton (No. 16 Strutmasters.com Chevrolet) spun into a guardrail on Lap 25 to bring out the race's first caution period, and the leaders drove to pit road. Ranger exited first, with Chris Buescher (No. 17 Reliance Tool/David Ragan Ford Ford) and Bowman behind him.

 

Bowman passed Buescher for second right away, and started to trim Ranger's advantage. He passed Ranger on Lap 33, just as another caution flag flew for a stalled car on the track. Buescher spun on the second lap of green flag racing after the track was clear, and it was on that third caution of the race that Ranger made one of the race's decisive moves.

 

Ranger used a second pit stop, closing Lap 39, to give him slightly fresher tires than the other leaders, who pitted to close Lap 26. Ranger came out of the pits 12th to start Lap 42 and worked his way to the top five within seven laps. At that time, though, Elliott passed Bowman for his first lead of the day before giving way to Hessert, a hometown favorite from Cherry Hill, N.J.

 

Elliott passed Hessert back to take the lead on Lap 57, by which time Ranger had moved to third. Ranger moved to second the next lap when Hessert slipped off the course in the second turn, and set his sights on Elliott. To close Lap 59 - with eight to go - Elliott led Ranger by 1.384 second.

 

Ranger nearly halved the gap one lap later, and narrowed it to 0.339 second with six to go. Elliott maintained and even slightly extended the advantage over the next several laps, occasionally kicking dirt out of one of the final turns to obstruct Ranger's vision temporarily.

 

Elliott led by 0.316 second at the white flag, but Ranger caught him at the end of the front straightaway and out-braked Elliott for a pass in the final turn. Elliott slipped off course soon after, and Ranger ran away over the 2.25-mile course to a 4.475-second victory.

 

The runner-up finish was Elliott's second top-five and third top-10 result in just three ARCA Racing Series starts.

 

"I knew we were capable of running this well," Elliott said. "It was just a matter of me figuring it out. The car was great. It was just my lack of experience. The car could have won the race if it had somebody who knew what they were doing, but I'm definitely pleased."

 

Buescher edged Roulo Brothers Racing teammate Brandon Davis for third with a pass on Lap 63, and Will Kimmel (No. 68 Clarksville Schwinn & Cyclery Ford) finished fifth. Points leader Brennan Poole (No. 25 CJ Solar Band Toyota) kept a slight advantage over Buescher by finishing sixth, and Frank Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell/Menards Toyota) was seventh. Mason Mingus (No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota), Hessert, and Milka Duno (No. 94 Milka Way Toyota) filled out the top 10.

The ARCA Racing Series will be off next weekend before traveling to Iowa Speedway for the Prairie Meadows 200 on Friday, July 13. The race will air live on SPEED at 9 p.m. Eastern, with live timing and scoring available at ARCARacing.com. All practice activity and Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell will take place that day, and ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring coverage of those sessions as well. The race will be the seventh for ARCA at the 0.875-mile track.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. Steve Côté gagne la finale et prend la tête du classement.

Lors de la coupe DM MARTEX à l’ASE samedi soir.

Steve Côté, le champion 2010 en Sportsman à l’Autodrome St-Eustache, qui effectue un retour en 2012 aux commandes de la voiture #85 de Normand Lavigueur, a finalement remporté sa première finale lors de la 4e épreuve de la saison, une finale de 50 tours, où l’action n’a pas manqué, malgré une participation réduite à cause des nombreuses averses locales qui sévissaient à plusieurs endroits sur la couronne nord, décourageant quelques pilotes de se rendre à St-Eustache, où seulement quelques goutelettes se sont manifestés.

 

 

C’est cependant la lutte entre Maxime Pelletier et Martin Lacombe qui aura retenu l’attention des amateurs pour une grande partie de la course.

 

Bénéficiant d’une position en première ligne aux côtés du jeune Marc Antoine Demers. Le pilote de la voiture #70 s’est emparé de la tête dès le premier tour avec Demers derrière lui qui l’a talonné jusqu’au moment où Pelletier prenne sa mesure et s’intalle au 2e rang au 7e tour. C’est  à ce moment qu’une lutte sans merci s’est engagée entre Lacombe et Pelletier jusqu’à ce que les deux voitures se touchent à la sortie du virage 2 au 21e tour, Cette touchette a déstabilisé les deux pilotes de tête ouvrant toute grande la porte à Steve Côté et Jean-François Bouvrette qui se sont hissé en tête, relayant  Lacombe et Pelletier aux 4e et 5e rang jusqu’à ce que les deux finissent par se toucher encore une fois et causer la seule neutralisation de la course  au 31e tour, qui les a relayés en arrière du peloton pour la relance. Le mal était fait pour eux, ce qui a permis à Côté qui a su profiter de la situation pour terminer sur la première marche du podium devant Jean-François Bouvrette de St-Jérôme, Stéphane Aubin de Boisbriand, suivis des deux pilotes de Mascouche, Lacombe et Pelletier, qui ont remonté le peloton pour venir compléter le premier groupe de 5.

 

Mauvaise soirée pour Martin Goulet, qui a connu des problèmes mécaniques qui ont ruiné sa course et fait perdre la première position au classement. Maxime Pelletier et Jean-François Bouvrette on été ceux qui ont remporté les épreuves préliminaires.

 

Belle victoire pour Stéphane Gauvreau, de St-Joseph du Lac, en Sport-Compacte qui est finalement parvenu à remporter sa première finale après avoir connu toutes sortes d’ennui depuis le début de la saison. Il a été suivi au fil d’arrivée par les deux Marthelaquois Jason Morand et Patrick Boucher, Maxime Gauvreau, de La Plaine, le fils du gagnant qui occupe toujours la première place au classement avec la Honda #95 et Lyne Valiquette de Mirabel.

 

La course a été marquée par un incident entre le le 08 de Stéphane Langevin et le 71 de Mathieu Francoeur. Ce dernier a passablement amochée la voiture #71.

 

Les qualifications ont été remportées par Claude Salois de La Plaine et  Lyne Valiquette de Mirabel.

 

C’est Stéphane Aubin, de Boisbriand, suivi de Sylvain Denis de St-Léonard de Portneuf, Stéphane Caron, de Laval, Alain Demeule, de Blainville et Jocelyn Turcotte de Gatineau qui obtenu la 5e position suite à une pénalité imposé à Claude Tétreault de Napierville, lors de l’inspection technique qui la relayé au dernier rang.

 

Lors des qualifications, l’impatience de Gaby Tétreault aura ruiné sa soirée et celle de François Bergeron, un des favoris. Nicolas Tremblay de Berthierville et Stéphane Caron, de Laval ont été les vainqueurs des préliminaires.

 

En Production, Steve Ladouceur de Ste-Agathe a remporté la victoire et on a assisté à la première victoire de Michel Coulombe en qualification. Robert Guindon (41), Steve Vernier (17) et Jérémie Fournier (64) ont été les trois meilleurs en Challenge 4 lors de la finale écourtée à 15 tours en raison de neutralisations qui on pris la majorité des 15 minutes allouées pour cette finale. Guindon,  Vernier et Keven Huet ont remportés les qualifications.

 

Samedi prochain, le 7 juillet, les pilotes de la série Castrol-Edge, les Vintages, Légendes Modifiées et Challenge 4 seront en piste pour la reprise du Castrol 100 du 2 juin qui a été remis à cause de la pluie.

LaVair family gets 1-2-3 sweep in Bombers; “Mongo” Messier wins Enduro

WEST HAVEN, VT – Modified stock car racing veteran Vince Quenneville, Jr., returned to victory lane before a big crowd at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Interstate All Battery Center of Rutland Night on Friday.  The Brandon, VT driver was the headline-grabber in a night of intense NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action.

 

 

Rookie Joey Roberts of Georgia, VT led the first 14 circuits of the 35-lap race from his outside front-row starting position before Hunter Bates took over.  A caution flag at lap 20 allowed Quenneville, who ran his No. 78 Champlain Construction/Port Henry Service-sponsored Troyer car through the field from the 12th starting position on the 16-car field, to draw alongside Bates for a restart.  Quenneville pounced on the outside lane and cruised to the popular victory, his third win of the year.

Bates’ car faded soon after, and contact between he and Ron Proctor forced Bates to retire for the night.  Proctor, of Charlton, NY recovered to finish second, with Roberts a career-best third.  Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY finished fourth, and Joe Williams of Scotia, NY battled teammate Cody Sargen in the final laps before securing fifth.  Sargen, Jeff Haskins, Jamie Proctor, Andy Smith, and Dave Snow completed the top ten.

Craig Bushey continued his torrid streak in the J&S Steel Late Model feature, running to his fourth point-counting victory of the season and fifth overall.  The Fairfax, VT driver didn’t have an easy go of it, though; Dan Petronis and Matt White battled hard for the lead in the first half of the 30-lap race before Petronis broke out from the pack.  Just as Bushey’s No. 05 Vermont Life Safety/Miller Auto Group Chevrolet reeled Petronis in, though, Petronis spun out of the top spot with five laps remaining.  Bushey scooted by and ran to the win with Northfield, VT’s White second and Bryan Town of Charlestown, NH third.  Scott Carpenter and rookie Robert Bryant, Jr., were fourth and fifth, respectively.

The 15-lap Renegade shootout was action-packed, and Robert Gordon of Milton, VT posted his third win of the year after a race-long side-by-side battle with Jeremy Jones.  Gordon led the final nine laps of the race, but never by more than a few feet as Leicester, VT racer Jones stayed tough.  Bill Duprey of Hydeville, VT finished a tight third.

The 20-lap Bomber feature was a LaVair family reunion, with Gabriels, NY veteran Harold LaVair and sons Chris and Bobby turning in an entertaining performance.  Bobby LaVair ended up crossing the finish line as the winner for his first Devil’s Bowl win in two years.  Harold LaVair was the runner-up with Chris LaVair third.  Garrett Given was fourth with Mitchell Dundon fifth in just his second career start.

Eric “Mongo” Messier of Hinesburg, VT won the season’s first Enduro race for virtually stock 4 & 6 cylinder cars.  Messier drove his No. 88 Ford Probe with relative ease in the 75-lap survival-of-the-fittest event and put multiple laps on all but second-place finisher Tony Andrews of Middlebury, VT.  Mike Forsey of Westford, VT was third.

Coca-Cola presents Vermont’s biggest Independence Day celebration at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Wednesday, July 4 at 5:00pm.  The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be in action with extra-distance 44-lap events for the Bond Auto Parts Modifieds and J&S Steel Late Models, each paying $1,200 to win, as well as regular events for the Renegade and Bomber divisions and the state’s largest and loudest fireworks display.  Admission for the blockbuster event is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under.  Gates open at 3:00pm, racing starts at 5:00pm.

Des milliers d’amateurs sont venus célébrer le long weekend de la fête du Canada de belle façon à l’Autodrome Granby. Les pilotes ont donné un bon spectacle sur une piste bien préparée. Les officiels ont fait un beau travail afin de terminer tôt un programme très chargé.

 

                                                                                                                     

Les STR : 2 finales spectaculaires

La soirée a mal débuté pour les pilotes de la série Rev Star, un drapeau rouge en début d’épreuve suite à un accrochage dans la courbe #1. Heureusement, personne n’a été blessé. Gabriel Richer (#10) a remporté l’épreuve de 20 tours devant Pierre Hébert (#1) et Maxime Plante (#79). Éric Boisvert (#44) et Pierre Hébert ont été les plus rapides lors des épreuves de qualification. C’était une soirée chargée pour les pilotes de la catégorie STR, une deuxième finale a été présentée en fin de programme. Maxime Plante a pris les commandes de l’épreuve de 25 tours au 9e passage pour filer vers la victoire. Le podium était complété par Gabriel Richer et Pierre Hébert.

 

Les Pro-Stock : Jocelyn Roy est le nouveau meneur au classement.

François Adam (01) et Jocelyn Roy (#48) se sont démarqués lors des épreuves de qualification. Ces deux pilotes ont été spectaculaires en finale. François Adam a pris le départ de la finale du 10e rang tandis que Roy occupait le 11e rang. 17 voitures étaient présentes dans les puits de l’Autodrome Granby. Au 10e passage de l’épreuve de 25 tours, le pilote du bolide #48 réussi à prendre les commandes de l’épreuve devant Rolland Hébert (#97), Richard Bertand (#08) et Stéphane Lemire (#115). En fin d’épreuve, on doit déployer le drapeau jaune quand Richard Bertrand accroche le bolide d’une retardataire. Dès la relance, François Adam tente de prendre la position de commande sur Jocelyn Roy, les voitures se frôlent et Adam doit se contenter d’une crevaison. Jocelyn Roy s’empare de la victoire, Stéphane Lemire (#115) et Bruno Cyr (#33) complètent le podium. Roy s’empare de la première position au classement 2012 avec 21 points de plus que François Adam. Tout pourrait changer vendredi prochain, le 6 juillet puisque les bolides Pro-Stock seront en piste pour une finale de 50 tours avec points de championnat.

 

 

 

 

Les Sportsman : Steve Bernier remporte les honneurs

Dany Gagné (#90), Maxime Michon (#75) et Yvan Rivard (#44) ont été les plus rapides lors des séances de qualification. 25 voitures ont pris le départ de l’épreuve finale de 25 tours. Au 6e passage, Dany Gagné qui avait pris le départ de la 8e position réussi à prendre les commandes de l’épreuve devant Samuel Desrochers (#4), Yvan Rivard (#44), Maxime Lajoie (#27) et Steve Bernier (#25). Au 15e passage, un premier ralentissement est causé par les bolides d’Yves Léveillée (#139) et Stéphane Caron (#89). Au 17e tour Steve Bernier s’empare de la première position pour filer vers sa troisième victoire de la saison 2012 sur le circuit de la rue Cowie. Dany Gagné et Mathieu Desjardins le suivaient au fil d’arrivée.

 

Les Modifié : François Bernier conserve sont titre de Mr Modifié

 

Alain Boisvert (#73), Claude Brouillard (#3) et François Bernier (#49) ont remporté leur qualification respective. Puisque c’était une soirée de championnat, une pige a été effectuée pendant l’intermission afin de connaître les positions de départ pour la finale de 50 tours. François Bernier était le premier à piger, il a eu la main chanceuse et a sorti du boulier la position #1. Lors du 28e passage, le bolide #54 de Steve Bernard a une fois de plus des ennuis, il doit repartir de l’arrière du peloton après avoir causé le premier drapeau jaune de l’épreuve. Le pilote maskoutain du bolide #49 a mené d’une main de maître presque toute l’épreuve. Gino Clair (#22J) a eu l’honneur de s’emparer des commandes de l’épreuve au 30e passage, Gino avait pris le départ de la 2e position. Au 37e tour, François Bernier reprend son dû et file vers sa troisième victoire de la saison devant les frères Mario (#22) et Gino Clair.

Entre le vert et le damier :

-Une très belle entrevue des 2 pilotes vedettes de la soirée Clément (Modifié #39) et son fils Alan Therrien (Modifié # 39A) ont offert une excellente entrevue à notre porte-parole Bertrand Godin lors de l’intermission.

- Le pilote Granbyen ‘Steve Bernard’ poursuit ses malchances à l’Autodrome Granby, il a une fois de plus donné tout un spectacle en repartant de l’arrière du peloton au 28e passage pour terminer 11e au damier.
