WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Marc Johnson made history on Tuesday, June 13, at The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway, winning the first-ever race for the new King of Dirt Series (KOD) Small Block Modified tour. "The White Knight" from Guilderland, N.Y., sailed through the 40-lap "Vermont Modified Mayhem" event sponsored by A-Verdi Storage & Office Solutions, to kick off the new series with a $3,000 victory.

Johnson started seventh and navigated his way through limited visibility on a dusty surface in the early laps. Five caution flags slowed the pace in the first nine laps, but action picked up once the race got into a rhythm and the dust lifted. Johnson was tested by Jessey Mueller on four restarts in the final 26 laps – including a green-white-checker restart with two laps left – but held his ground up front for the big payday.

Olmstedville, N.Y., driver Mueller, an 11-time winner on the 1/2-mile Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl, ran in second place for most of the race and matched his career-best finish in dirt competition as the runner-up. Allison Ricci of New Paltz, N.Y., ran inside the top five all race long and parked her Halmar Racing entry on the podium in third place. Tim Fuller came out on top of a late battle with Kenny Tremont Jr. for fourth place.

Jack Lehner finished sixth behind Tremont and ahead of defending Devil's Bowl track champion Bobby Hackel. Neil Stratton finished eighth despite pitting under caution for a flat tire with 13 laps left. Brian Gleason and Demetrios Drellos completed the unofficial top 10 finishers.

Brian Calabrese of Johnstown, N.Y., was a convincing winner in the inaugural 20-lap "Ron Casey Memorial" Shootout, a special non-points race for Sportsman Modified drivers who had not previously won a feature race at The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway. Calabrese made short work of it, driving from seventh at the start to second place. Hometown favorite Billy Lussier led the first four laps before the race's lone caution period, when Calabrese got a good restart and took command, leaving the field behind for the win and the $500 top prize.

Lussier finished second with Jimmy Ryan third. Lenny Pillsbury and rookie James Fadden completed the top five. Calabrese, whose car has minimal sponsorship, traveled over two hours with just his brother as his lone crew member. The family of Ron Casey presented him with the trophy and a commemorative decal.

Devil's Bowl Speedway returns to action with the annual Father's Day "Topless Weekend" on June 17-18. The Sportsman Modifieds take their roofs off on The Asphalt Track on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. with Twin 20-lap features, along with Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Bandit Youth Mini Stocks, and the New England Antique Racers. Topless racing continues on Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. on The Dirt Track, with roofless Sportsman Modifieds and wingless Catamount Mini Sprints, plus Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Kids Bicycle Races.

They say it can't be done, but the stakes are higher this Saturday night at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group in the Perras Ace Hardware Tiger Sportsman if any driver can win the main event other than the undefeated, self proclaimed king, Lil Brendan Moodie. Moodie has been unstoppable all season long losing only one heat race by inches to cross town rival, Mark Lanphear. He has claimed five consecutive feature race victories at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group.

For the past couple of weeks there has been a $500 winner's bounty posted for anyone that could win the feature event other than Moodie. The rules are simple. You can't wreck him and he has to be on the track at the end of the race. If that happens, the winner s purse for the night is $500. Moodie who is known for his pleasant "Come and get me smirk" in victory lane has held off all challengers thus far, BUT, an anonymous donor has increased the bounty to $750 to defeat Moodie and win the race.

"I want to turn that smirk into a frown this week stated the donor. It's time to see the self proclaimed king get knocked off his throne. Hopefully a lot of teams will enter the kingdom for a chance to take over the crown."

It couldn't come at a better time as this Saturday night, June 17^th, the Valenti Modified Racing Series invades Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group for a 100 lap main event. A large crowd is expected, and it would be perfect timing for a new winner. Joining the Valenti Modified Racing Series will be the Perras Ace Hardware Tiger Sportsman, Caron's Fabrication Street Stocks and the A.B. Excavating Daredevils. There will also be a Fans Meet and Greet Party on the track at intermission. Post time is 6pm.

Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road is set to kick off a summer of racing with Casella Night this Thursday, June 15. After a trio of Sunday events, the quarter-mile oval opens its traditional Thursday night racing schedule with an action-packed program featuring double features for the Late Models and the annual appearance of the New England Antique Racers (N.E.A.R.).

The Thunder Road Late Models open the program with their Harvest Equipment make-up feature that was originally scheduled for June 4. They will then have a full round of qualifying and semi-feature action before ending the night with the Casella main event. The doubleheader could go a long way toward setting the stage for the 2017 "King of the Road" chase.

"There's definitely a lot on the line, especially for a team like ours," multi-time Late Model winner Matt White said. "We've been so fast all year, but we haven't been able to prove anything yet. Wrecking out of (Memorial Day) put us way behind. It'd be nice to get out of there with a couple of top-five finishes. If we can pull off a win, that'd be awesome, but the main thing is to have a solid night to get set back up for the rest of the season."

Hinesburg's Bobby Therrien has been the man to beat so far this year. After winning the Memorial Day Classic, he copped heat and semi-feature victories prior to the Harvest Equipment feature rain-out, putting himself in position to capture the Maplewood Triple Crown in the make-up feature. After a hard crash while leading Sunday's Community Bank 150, Therrien stated Tuesday that many of the repairs have been completed and the team intends to be at Thunder Road on Thursday.

Vermont Governor Phil Scott has committed to the event as well and will have two chances at becoming the first sitting governor to win a Vermont stock car race. The rest of the weekly Late Model stars are expected, including defending "King of the Road" Scott Dragon along with multi-time winners Jason Corliss, Shawn Fleury, Kyle Pembroke, and Eric Badore.

The Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers and Allen Lumber Street Stocks join the action-packed card. 2015 Tiger Champion Brendan Moodie of Wolcott is on top of the standings after a win and a second-place to open the season, with 1991 Champion Dwayne Lanphear of Morrisville hot on his heels. Trevor Lyman came back from a long hiatus and showed he still has what it takes with a win in Sunday's event. Perennial contenders Mike Martin and Jason Woodard are in the hunt early, while rookie brothers Jaden and Jamon Perry have quickly gotten up to speed.

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks have a family battle atop the standings, with Morrisville's Brandon Lanphear ahead of cousin Reilly Lanphear by just two points. Reilly's sister Peyton led both to the finish line on Sunday, while veterans Alan Maynard, Michael Gay, Will Hennequin, and Gary Mullen are off to strong starts.

Post time for the first Thursday night event of the 2017 Thunder Road season is 7:00pm, with the Late Model Harvest Equipment make-up feature followed by the regularly scheduled Casella Night card featuring the New England Antique Racers. The pits open at 4:00pm with the general admission gates opening at 5:15pm. Admission is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).

Annual OMRS 'Test-a-Mod' Session Provides Open Wheeled Thrill Rides

As part of its driver development program, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – hosted its annual open test session prior to the regularly scheduled race night – Saturday, June 10^th – at Peterborough Speedway. Rick Warnes – who along with Bill Pickford and Randy Hollingsworth make-up the team of OMRS officials – says it's a great opportunity for racers from other divisions to get the feel for one of the powerful machines.

"Over the years, we've had a few drivers who have acquired a chassis to run with our series. That's been the goal all along," Warnes explained. "Its almost like a motorsports version of 'Field of Dreams'. We have the cars and drivers with enough experience to make it a benefit for everyone involved. Even if it opens the door to just one driver a year, we've accomplished our goal."

Using the #95 machine of former series champion Rob Warnes as the rabbit, a pack of hungry hounds from a variety of different genre strapped-in behind the controls of an OMRS machine for a few laps, followed by a debriefing session with family, friends and tour officials. Rick Warnes says that as in years past, around 10 drivers took the opportunity to hit the track. Its been a stepping stone for runners like Willow Barberstock and Connor James, who currently run full-time with modifieds tour.

"Willow and Connor moved into our program shortly after one of the sessions," Warnes said. "Brandon Feeney – who this year switched from the 4Fun division to the Thunder Car class – also participated in the practice day and looked at running with OMRS full-time, before picking-up the new car. Colborne, Ontario's Linc Brown ran some laps last year and made his debut with the series Saturday, June 10^th."

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series 'Test-a-Mod' Notebook: Some of the drivers on the track at this year's practice included Nathan Brooks, Owen Brooks, Austin Brown, Alex Cazzilla, Andrew Druzdzowski and Patrick Ripley. Mark Griffin, who runs with the Eastern Ontario Legends Series and makes selected starts with the 4Fun division at Peterborough. 4Fun regular Sean Kennedy was on hand for the test and followed-up his time in the Modified with a feature win in his own car. Graham Brown also ran some laps. It was his first time behind the wheel of an open-wheeled machine in more than 15 years.

Local Favourites Will Chase APC Pro Late Model Glory at Peterborough Speedway

One of the most anticipated events on the 50^th Anniversary schedule is about to take the green flag at Peterborough Speedway. Saturday, June 17^th, the APC Pro Late Model Series is slated to make its 3^rd appearance at Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval, with support from the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Thunder Car and Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck divisions.

Former OSCAAR Super Late Model Series champion Brandon Watson holds the hot hand on the travelling road show, having taken the win at events run at Sunset and Flamboro Speedways so far this season. Despite Watson's success, there will be a few familiar faces for fans of the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City to support.

Cavan, Ontario's Dan McHattie is taking some time this week to convert his regular Saturday night ride over to the APC specs. He says he's enjoying running the weekly shows in front of his family, friends and fans at Peterborough and looks forward to being in the line-up against some different competition this weekend. Chris Mitchell – who won the Autumn Colours Classic in 2011 – is focusing his efforts on the Pro Late Model tour this year and finished 10^th and 11^threspectively at Sunset and Flamboro. He says he's working with a car that's new to him and is still working to see what it wants.

In addition to McHattie and Mitchell, reigning Peterborough Speedway Late Model champion Rick Spencer-Walt has also run the first 2 shows on the Pro Late Model tour and is expected to compete during this weekend's stop. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says its great news to have some of the venue's top runners in the line-up for this special event.

"There have been so many talented racers come through our gates over the years, its great to see some of top Late Model teams signed-up for this event," Josiasse said. "They've all been big winners during their events here and it would be quite possible to see one of them take the checkered flag Saturdaynight."

For the Saturday, June 17^th event pit gates will open at 2:00 and the general admission grandstands unlocked at 4:00. Racing takes the green flag at 6:00. Looking ahead on the schedule finds the annual Autism Awareness Night Saturday, June 24^th. Race action includes the Can Am TQ Midget, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legend and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series divisions, with kid's barrel races at intermission.

Après avoir remporté sa qualification Robin Harrisson en a fait autant lors des deux finales pour prendre la tête pour le titre de MONSIEUR ORICOM avec 200 points. Il ne l'a pas eu facile, car les Maxime Gagné et Steve Godbout l'on talonné de près pour terminer à égalité au 2ième rang avec chacun 187 points.Ils sont suivi d'Olivier Labbé Pelletier avec 174 points et de Jeff Côté de Beauceville qui a sa première présence à Montmagny a d'abord remporté sa qualification et termine 5ième au classement avec 170 points.

Lauzier, Blanchette, Livernoche Éric, Caron et Levasseur complètent le <BIG TEN>.Soulignons également la performance de Samuel Boyer, qui termine 11ième et domine pour le titre de recrue de l'année.

Deux belles finales rapides avec discipline et respect qui ont enchanté autant les pilotes que les amateurs. Ça promet pour le 24 juin. Une réunion de pilotes est prévue pour discuter de la saison 2018... Détails à suivre.

Bell wins tough Midget race

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Randy Howe was picture perfect at The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Sunday, June 11. The Lebanon, N.H., veteran hit every mark, led every lap, and earned his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victory on Whelen Engineering Night. Howe topped a six-division show that also saw Bill Duprey, Jason Porter, Sami Sargent, Alex Bell, and Robert Griffin all make stops in victory lane.

Howe had some good luck to go along with a strong car in the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division. He drew the number-one starting position for both his qualifying heat race and the 35-lap main event and was able to stay there the entire night. A rash of early caution flags in the feature race gave the rest of the field several attempts at taking Howe's lead away, but the former Devil's Bowl 358-Modified winner and multi-time champion in his native New Hampshire never faltered.

Only Kenny Tremont Jr., after working his way from the 10^th starting spot, was able to mount a serious challenge for Howe, but could not find a way past Howe on the dry slick track. Tremont took runner-up honors with Vince Quenneville Jr. a solid third. Jackie Brown Jr. rebounded from an early crash to finish fourth, while Bobby Hackel charged from 14^th to fifth place. Chad Miller, Justin Severance, and Justin Comes were next in line, and Mike Block drove from 21^st to finish ninth. Billy Lussier completed the top 10 runners.

Bill Duprey of Hydeville, Vt., collected his 45^th career Devil's Bowl win in the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Super Stock division, taking a 15-lap main event. Duprey started sixth and battled early with Matt Mosher before stretching out to a 10 car-length margin of victory. Chris Murray and Josh Bussino – Duprey's teammates and close friends – finished second and third, respectively, setting up a jubilant victory lane celebration. Frank Monroe and Larry Bristol rounded out the top five.

Long-hauler Jason Porter of Freeport, Maine, made it a two-for-two start to the season in the 15-lap Portland Glass Mini Stock feature. The opening night winner drove from 10^th place at the start for his second-straight victory. Sophomore driver Chris Charbonneau collected his career-best finish as the runner-up after leading several laps. Robert Garney – who traveled home to Fort Edward, N.Y., to get a backup car after qualifying – finished third ahead of rookies Willie Rice and Josh Kennedy.

Sami Sargent of Bristol, Vt., became the first winner on the 3/10-mile Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl in the new Ladies Mini Stock division. After a fourth-place finish on the 1/2-mile Asphalt Track a week ago, Sargent passed both Lynn Denton and Megen Bradley to take the win. Denton was the runner-up with early leader Bradley third.

Alex Bell of Cambridge, N.Y., made a triumphant return to his home track with the visiting Lucas Oil POWRi Outlaw Midget Series. A former Sportsman Modified winner on both dirt and asphalt at Devil's Bowl, Bell survived a carnage-filled race for the wingless Midget cars. Multiple incidents left several cars damaged and one crash sent Andy Barrows flipping over end-over-end; he was uninjured.

The race was trimmed from 20 laps to 15, but Bell didn't need the help as he had a fast car and won going away. Veteran racer Rick Stone, 68, finished as the runner-up. Tyler Rivard, who crashed out of the lead in the incident with Barrows, passed several cars in the final laps to take third place. D.J. Moniz and Nate Furman completed the top five.

The brand-new Catamount Mini Sprint club debuted with a competitive 15-lap feature that saw good racing through the field. Nadine Coates led the first 10 laps before Robert Hagar crashed in lapped traffic, flipping his car onto its top wing; he walked away uninjured. At the restart, Sunapee, N.H.'s Bob Griffin – driving his son's car after having mechanical problems with his own car in the heat race – took the lead and sailed to the win. Coates finished second with 15 year-old Colby Beinhaur third. Mark Mulready and Sean Beinhaur were next in line.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is back in action on The Dirt Track with a special Tuesday night event on June 13 at 7:00 p.m., as the King of Dirt Series comes to town for the first Small Block 358-Modified race at Devil's Bowl in three years. A-Verdi Storage & Office Solutions presents the 40-lap, $3,000-to-win "Vermont Modified Mayhem" event, which is expected to draw star drivers Matt Sheppard, Tim Fuller, Ronnie Johnson, Matt DeLorenzo, and many more. Also on the card is the inaugural "Ron Casey Memorial" 20-lap shootout for Sportsman Modified non-winners, paying $500 to win.

General admission for Tuesday's special event is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $5 for teenagers, and free for kids age 12 and under. Pit gates open at 4:00 p.m., grandstands open at 5:30 p.m., and racing starts at7:00 p.m.

Deux podiums pour Valérie Chiasson en classe Or de la Coupe Porsche GT3 au Grand Prix du Canada !

Le 11 juin 2017.- La pilote québécoise Valérie Chiasson renouait ce week-end avec la compétition au Canada, alors qu'elle prenait part au Grand Prix du Canada, sur le circuit Gilles-Villeneuve de Montréal, dans la Coupe Porsche GT3 canadienne. Fidèle à la tradition qui a toujours vu Valérie briller à ce prestigieux événement, elle a réalisé deux excellentes courses, récoltant à chaque fois la deuxième place dans sa catégorie. Valérie se trouve en effet cette année dans la seconde catégorie (classe Or), réservée aux voitures d'ancienne génération qui sont en moyenne deux secondes au tour plus lente que les GT3 2017. Cela ne l'a pas empêché de se classer de plus dixième au classement général samedi, puis douzième dimanche.

Aux commandes de sa Porsche 911 GT3 Cup de l'équipe Mark Motors Racing aux couleurs de Total Canada, Valérie Chiasson devait reprendre ses habitudes avec la série canadienne de Coupe Porsche, elle qui avait plutôt participé à des épreuves en Europe, dans le cadre de la Coupe Porsche GT3 Challenge Benelux, cette saison. Dès l'unique séance d'essais libres vendredi midi, les événements sont allés dans le bon sens pour la pilote québécoise, qui réside au Grand Duché de Luxembourg : « je dispose d'une voiture de la catégorie Or, celles regroupant les modèles GT3 Cup antérieurs à 2017. La qualité de préparation de la voiture par l'équipe Mark Motors Racing était vraiment parfait mais, bien entendu, il est impossible avec une voiture de cette catégorie de viser les premiers rangs toutes-catégories » explique Valérie.

Néanmoins, elle se retrouve qualifiée treizième toutes-catégories, deuxième en classe Or en vue de la première course, samedi après-midi. Sous un chaud soleil et devant des estrades remplies à pleine capacité, son épreuve fut un succès du début à la fin. « J'ai connu un bon départ et gagné trois places dès le premier virage. Ensuite, une neutralisation s'est produite en raison d'un accrochage dans le peloton et j'ai reperdu deux places. Je pense bien qu'un ou deux pilotes n'ont pas respecté les drapeaux jaunes signalant qu'on ne peut pas dépasser, mais ils n'ont pas été pénalisés » confie-t-elle. « Ça ne m'a pas affecté outre mesure car j'ai été capable de les repasser sitôt la course relancée » ajoute Valérie Chiasson, qui a ainsi mené sa voiture au dixième rang toutes-catégories, le deuxième en classe Or.

C'était donc l'occasion pour Valérie Chiasson de renouer avec le podium du circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, après avoir été la première pilote féminine à réaliser l'exploit de grimper sur le podium toutes-catégories du Grand Prix du Canada, en 2015. « C'est un sentiment extraordinaire de monter sur le podium au Grand Prix du Canada. J'ai vraiment attaqué du début à la fin pour gagner, puis défendre ma position dans cette course, cela ajoute une saveur particulière » indique Valérie.

Dimanche, c'est de la quatorzième place sur la grille de départ que Valérie Chiasson s'est élancée. Ralentie pendant quelques tours en raison d'un accident, l'épreuve n'a que donné peu de tours pour qu'un pilote puisse gagner des positions. Valérie Chiasson termine douzième toutes-catégories, mais de nouveau deuxième en classe Or. Elle est ainsi montée pour une seconde fois en autant de courses sur le podium de sa catégorie. « J'ai réalisé mon meilleur tour dans le dernier tour de la course, je pense donc que si la course avait été plus longue (elle a duré 25 minutes au lieu des 45 minutes habituelles qu'on retrouve dans la série), j'aurais pu espérer gagner une ou deux places, mais dans l'ensemble, c'est un remarquable week-end » a expliqué Valérie, qui est aussi la représentante canadienne de la Commission FIA "Women in Motorsport" qui encourage la participation féminine en sport automobile.

Sans avoir effectué de séance d'essais préalable, Valérie en était à un premier événement cette année dans la Coupe Porsche GT3 Canada. Elle reprendra les commandes de la Porsche No.27 aux couleurs de Mark Motors Racing et Total Canada en août prochain, au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. D'ici là, elle poursuivra sa saison en Europe, sa prochaine course dans la Coupe Porsche GT3 Challenge Benelux étant prévue le 1^er juillet sur le circuit de Zandvoort, aux Pays Bas.

La participation de Valérie Chiasson cette saison en Coupe Porsche GT3 Canada est organisée en partenariat avec Mark Motors Racing et Total Canada.
