PASS South season heats up at Newport Saturday

NAPLES ME ( 8/3)  The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South super  late models get back on track this Saturday August 7  at Newport (TN) Speedway after  a month- long hiatus and  the 125 lap Daniel Boone Classic will mark the start of their stretch run to the 2010  series championship.

The Daniel Boone Classic has been a part of the PASS South schedule since 2008 and the wickedly fast high banked speed plant has seen just one driver wear the coonskin cap that signifies victory at the Tennessee oval. Jay Fogleman seems to have the key to victory lane at Newport and you can bet that the Durham North Carolina super late model star isn’t about to hand it over to his competition. Fogleman outran Bobby East in 2008 and Jake Crum in 2009 for two of his four career PASS wins, and without a doubt he will look to pull himself up in the series standings with a good run in the 2010 version of the Classic.

Fogleman sits in fourth behind Preston Peltier, Ryan Blaney and Andy Loden. That trio has dominated the win column to date. Peltier and Blaney each have two race wins; Blaney trails Peltier by 38 markers ((1716-1678) in the championship standings after eight events. Third place points man Andy Loden had a streak of three in a row going before Blaney snapped the skein at Greenville-Pickens. Justin Wakefield has the eighth win, his coming at Wake County.

Newport hosts super late models on a weekly basis and their rules mirror those of the Pro All Stars so their top teams will likely take on the touring racers. Mart Nesbitt, Lee Tissot, Jake Crum, Jimmy Doyle, David Flynn and a whole lot more have what it takes to upset the apple cart and take home a chunk of the big purse

This year Newport will host a second PASS South event for the first time in a single season. The Mason-Dixon Meltdown is the final race for both the PASS South and PASS National series. Expect many teams to use the Daniel Boone Classic as a tune up race for “The Meltdown”, slated for October 15 and 16.

The super late models will be joined by the Allison Legacy Series and the tracks’ own Limited Sportsman, Street Stock, Front Wheel Drive and Modified Four divisions.

On Saturday August 7 the action gets underway with  practice from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Pro Photo Productions time trials roll off at 6:30 PM and the first race gets the green at 7:30 PM. There’s an optional practice session scheduled for Friday August 6th from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
