One Week Remains in Vermont Motorsports Magazine's Driver of the Year Awards

BURLINGTON, VT -- One week remains in the voting for the stock-car racing website Vermont Motorsports Magazine's -- online at www.vtmotormag.com -- third annual "Driver of the Year" awards.  The fan-voted awards recognize stock car drivers from Vermont’s three local tracks, Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and the regional touring series for their efforts during the 2011 season.

 

Sixty-seven drivers from asphalt, dirt, full-fender, and open-wheel disciplines make up the diverse ballot of stock-car drivers in eleven categories.

Competitors are nominated for selection for “Driver of the Year” awards in the Open Wheel, Late Model/Limited/Sportsman, and Four Cylinder categories, as well as categories for Touring Series drivers, drivers competing at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and those competing at Vermont’s three weekly race tracks: Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, and Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre.  There are also nominations for Breakout Driver of the Year and Rookie Driver of the Year.

Ten racers have been named to the overall Vermont Motorsports Magazine 2011 Stock Car Driver of the year ballot.  Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl Late Model champion Dave Pembroke of Montpelier, American Canadian Tour champion Brian Hoar of Williston, Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl Tiger Sportsman champion and ACT Tiger Tour champion Derrick O’Donnell of Bradford, Bear Ridge Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman Modified champion Adam Pierson of Fairlee, Bear Ridge Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman Modified, USAC Dirt Midget Association, and Sprint Cars of New England frontrunner Kevin Chaffee of Fairlee, Devil’s Bowl Speedway NASCAR Modified champion Ron Proctor of Charlton, N.Y., Airborne (N.Y.) Speedway DIRTcar Modified champion Martin Roy of Napierville, Quebec, Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model North champion Johnny Clark of Hallowell, Maine, Sprint Cars of New England champion Dan Douville of Bridgewater, N.H., and Airborne (N.Y.) Speedway Sportsman champion Robin Wood of Plattsburgh, N.Y., are the ten nominees for Driver of the Year.

"The voters have put many nominees in close races in all categories for Driver of the Year voting," said VMM Editor T.J. Ingerson.  "Every vote counts with one week remaining to help the drivers they believe should be recognized as Driver of the Year."

The Vermont Motorsports Magazine 2011 Driver of the Year Award voting ballot will be open through Friday, December 16.  Winners will be announced on Friday, December 23.
