Linc Brown Hopes For a Strong Summer Sizzler Showing

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications

It would almost be like Christmas morning...if Christmas came in July. Linc Brown started contemplating a return to action at Kawartha Speedway late in 2011 and as soon as his plans were finalized, the first race date circled on the calendar that hangs on the wall of his race shop was the Friday, July 6th Summer Sizzler.  There is no gift the Colborne, Ontario racer would sooner unwrap than a win in the 3/8th mile oval’s annual marquee event.

“A checkered flag in that race is something I’d love to have on my resume,” said Brown while prepping his ride at the team’s garage.  “You need to be prepared for almost anything because there’s so much that can happen during the 150 lapper.  Luckily, we’ll get 3 chances to make changes to how the car handles, but I’m confident that we have the experience and equipment to turn in a strong run.”

After mechanical issues sidelined the team’s first start since 2008, Linc Brown feels the strength of the year’s first top 10 finish Friday, June 22nd will help the #99 Kawartha Metals/Rousseau Automobile Communications/The Wolf 101.5/Don Butt Auto Body/Mayhew Graphics/Clarke Motorsports Communications Dodge Charger team turn the corner in Kawartha’s highly competitive NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model division.

“There’s no telling what might happen as the year rolls on, but right now I’m looking at the first night’s issues as a minor hiccup,” said the driver.  “I’ve been around this sport almost my entire life and learned early on that if you allow things to bother you from one week to the next, you’ll never achieve the level of success you’re looking for.  As a team, we’re better than our performance this year has shown, but every time we take the green flag is a brand new day.”

Brown looks forward to the challenges that come with battling for the extra race distance, as well as competing with drivers who might not be entirely familiar with the subtle nuances of Kawartha Speedway.  The $3000 payday offered for a Summer Sizzler win can bring some stiff opposition to the table as a number of invaders are expected to tackle the Fraserville favourites for the hometown honours.

“You never know who might show-up for this type of race,” admitted Brown.  “That’s something that racers all have in common.  If you put a big enough payday up for grabs, we all want to get a share of it.  I think our regulars have an advantage, though.  Anyone new who comes in will be working from an empty notebook and while our usual runners might be happy to help each other, I doubt there are too many in the field who’ll want to show an outsider how to win the biggest race on the schedule.”
