Get More Racing Than You Bargained for Saturday Night at Peterborough Speedway

Poor weather conditions are the bane of every speedway promoter's existence.  The best night of racing can be rudely interrupted by Mother Nature and send a packed grandstand scurrying for the exits, but in a rare instance, a rainout midway through the program can be a benefit to fans in the weeks to follow.

Saturday, July 19th was the second of this year's 3 Toonie Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Nights at Peterborough Speedway.  The stands were filled to near capacity and the pit area showed close to 20 entries in each of the night's 5 scheduled divisions.  Even with forecast models and weather radar showing rain all around the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City the qualifying events went into the record books with only a slight delay.  It was only when the 4Fun division's feature race took to the track that the skies opened-up and eventually cancelled the rest of the evening.

"Even though we were hoping for the best, we had planned for the worst," said track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse.  "Saturday, July 26th we'll add the rained-out Thunder Car and Late Model features to the regular race night.  In a show of goodwill between Peterborough Speedway and Pepsi, anyone with a general admission ticket stub from Fan Appreciation Night will get 50% off their grandstand admission for this show."

Action Saturday, July 26th will begin with the hold-over Thunder Car and Late Model features, then move from there into the regularly scheduled show that will see racing with the Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and Inex Ontario Legend divisions, concluding with a 100 lap 4/6 and 8 cylinder endurance show.  Pit gates will open at 3:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 5:00and the night's first green flag at 6:00.  Looking ahead on the schedule toSaturday, August 2nd which will see the Touring Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifying, including 50 and 30 lap features for the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models and Modifieds respectively, as well as the Battlefield Equipment 4Fun, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock and Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck divisions, in addition to the 4Fun and Mini Stock features that had been rained-out July 19th.
