NASCAR WHELEN MODIFIEDS…

•Are a top-level NASCAR Touring Series from the United States featuring big horse-power, big tires, big speed and big talent.  Race date: Sunday, Sept 4, 2011.

•Are technically NASCAR’s oldest racing series – First NASCAR Modified race ran February 15, 1948.  The modern series more recognizable today began in 1985.

•Use similar engines to NASCAR Sprint Cup Cars.  The engines on the modifieds generate 550-650 Horse Power •The high horse power combined with light weight of 2610 lbs (compared to 3,400 lbs for a Sprint Cup Car) provides the cars with amazing speeds.

•Massive 18 inch wide tires on the right rear of the cars provide unique handling characteristics and increased speed through the turns, especially at historic tracks like Delaware Speedway.

•Enjoy incredible popularity in the North Eastern United States.

•Are holding their first event in Canada at Delaware Speedway just outside of London, Ontario.

--Note: "Whelen" is pronounced "Wheel-in".  Whelen Engineering is the title sponsor of the series and are a manufacturer of audio and visual warning systems (such as those used in the corners of the speedway)--
