Two To Go As Pro Stocks Enter Petty For CARQUEST 100

August 27th, 2011 @ 6pm

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will make its second and final visit of the season to Petty International Raceway on Saturday August 27th, for the CARQUEST 100. The race will mark round eleven of twelve for the regional touring series. The CARQUEST 100 is the feature event of the 46th River Glade International weekend, the winner of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour show will have his name engraved on the International trophy alongside greats such as Jim Hallahan, Don Biederman, Greg Sewart and Frank Fraser Sr. Qualifying at the 1/4 mile oval, located in River Glade, NB, will start at 5:10 p.m. with the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials; racing action is slated for 6:00 p.m. Box office and grandstand open at 3:00pm.

Former series champion Wayne Smith (Timberlea, NS) enters Petty International Raceway with the point lead after a ninth place run at the Lucas Oil 100 last weekend at Riverside. Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB), who has swapped the point lead with Smith all season, sits in second spot just one point behind Smith, 1946 to 1945 respectively. Steadily making his way to the top of the point standings is Darren MacKinnon (Charlottetown, PE) who has had the best season of his career by far on the Tour this year. MacKinnon, who has two wins to date, is on a hot streak with seven consecutive top six finishes, six of those finishes have been top four performances. MacKinnon is just nine points behind Smith leading into the CARQUEST 100 with 1937 markers. With five bonus points going to the driver who leads a lap and another five bonus points available for leading the most laps the top three could easily be shaken up this weekend at Petty International.

Also remaining in the hunt for the title are John Flemming (Halifax, NS) and Kent Vincent (Crapaud, PE). Flemming who is the only back to back champion of the Tour (2002 & 2003) sits just 23 points behind Smith with 1923 points. Vincent, who has never won the title, has 1909 points and currently sits fifth in the standings. These two veterans are still within striking distance of the championship and will be looking for good runs this weekend to keep themselves in the hunt leading into the finale, the Dartmouth Dodge 200, which will take place at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, September 10th.

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will be joined by the Maritime League of Legends on Saturday as they will duke it out for 50-laps prior to the CARQUEST 100. Paul Blenkhorn (Truro, NS) currently leads Steve Pye (Lantz, NS) by 5 points in the Maritime League of Legends point race.
