Linc Brown Bounces Back From a Busy Week With a Top 10 Finish

During Kawartha Speedway’s first event of the 2012 season, Linc Brown experienced both issues as a problem with the distributor caused his car to shut-off in the middle of the back stretch...where it was hit from behind by another car. “We’d already put in some long hours and late nights just getting to the track,” said Brown. “This sport has a way of keeping you humble and having the night end the way it did was the last thing we expected. Racecars aren’t supposed to go in reverse so we’ll do everything we can to be positive, keep moving forward and put that night in the past where it belongs.” Friday, June 22nd was the second night of the season and the #99 Kawartha Metals/Rousseau Automobile Communications/The Wolf 101.5/Don Butt Auto Body/Mayhew Graphics/Clarke Motorsports Communications team was looking for a fresh start to their campaign. After the third round of pre-race practice laps, Linc Brown coasted his 2012 Dodge Charger to a stop in the pit area and was pushed back to the team’s hauler. “The car stuttered a little on the last lap of the segment,” said the driver while enjoy a quick bite after the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model main event. “I was concerned and shut it down as soon as we cleared the back stretch gate. Back in the pits, we discovered more issues with the distributor where the ignition timing had retarded 6 degrees, so it was better to be safe than sorry.” During the first qualifying event, Brown was still getting a feel for how the car would perform on the night and found it to be a little loose. That didn’t allow him to push as hard as he might have liked and he finished outside the top 5 cars that would advance to the semi feature. Running the consolation round gave the team some extra track time, but also meant they’d start outside the top 10 in the main event, but they were in the field. “As long as we can make the show, where we start isn’t that important,” said Brown. “When you put us all out there at once, things can happen anywhere in the pack. We made a big swing at a right rear spring change before the feature. At the drop of the green flag, I had the chance to search for a comfortable racing line for a couple of laps and then it was time to try moving through the field. Someone got out of shape in front of me, but there wasn’t time to capitalize because you can never be sure of where they’re going to end up. With just a single yellow flag, I’m thrilled with a top 10 finish on the lead lap.” Kawartha Speedway takes a week off Friday, June 29th but comes back to action Friday, July 6th with the 9th annual running of the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model Summer Sizzler. The 3 segment, 150 lap affair is the marquee event on Fraserville, Ontario oval’s 2012 schedule and the #99 team will be part of the action.
