Analyzing The Edmonton 100 At Edmonton City Centre Airport

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 17, 2012) – In the second race of its three-event Western Canadian swing, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 returns to Alberta to be a part of the Edmonton Indy after a one-year hiatus. The Edmonton 100 on the 2.256-mile, 13-turn temporary circuit at Edmonton City Centre Airport is scheduled to get underway on Sunday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. MT. Below is a statistical look at the recent performance of the series and selected drivers at Edmonton, as well as some other statistical trends:

 

Edmonton Race Setup

·         This is the Canadian Tire Series’ first time on the new 2.256-mile, 13-turn race course.

·         J.R. Fitzpatrick is a two-time Edmonton winner and has not finished worse than fourth in four career starts.

·         Andrew Ranger won at Edmonton in 2009 and has won 12 of his 21 series road-course starts and has not finished worse than third in his three Alberta starts.

·         Points leader D.J. Kennington and winner of the last three series events has finished outside of the top 10 in his last two Edmonton starts.

 

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series At Edmonton

·         This is the series’ fifth time to compete in Edmonton, but first on the new 2.256-mile, 13-turn race course.

·         The race’s television premier is scheduled for Saturday, July 28 at 3 p.m. ET on TSN2 and Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 10 p.m. ET on RDS2.

·         The four previous Edmonton events were competed on the old 1.973-mile, 14-turn track.

·         The Edmonton 100 is 101.66 kilometers (63.16 miles) in length.

·         Is one of five road-course events on the 2012 schedule – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ont., Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Que., Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal and Circuit de Trois-Rivieres (Que.) are the others.

·         In the previous four Edmonton events, there has been an average of 2.25 caution periods for 7.25 laps with earliest coming at Lap 9 in 2007 and the latest at Lap 27 in 2009.

·         In four races at Edmonton, the average finishing position for the polesitter is 1.75 and the average starting position for the race winner is 1.5.

·         Finished 18th in his last visit to Edmonton.

·         Best Edmonton finish was sixth in 2009.

·         Has recorded top 10s in three of his last four starts overall.

·         One of just four drivers to start all 68 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races.

 

Robin Buck (No. 66 Quaker State Dodge)

·         Finished third in 2007 in Edmonton for his only start in Alberta.

·         Registered two wins and four top-five finishes in his five 2011 road-course starts.

·         Has scored six top 10s in his last eight Canadian Tire Series start – all on road courses.

·         Scored a 21st-place finish in his last Edmonton start in 2010.
