Drummondville, Québec – vendredi 9 septembre, 2011 – Martin Bélanger, directeur des communications Le plus gros weekend de course sur terre-battue de la saison à l’Autodrome Drummond débutait ce soir dans le cadre de la première journée de la 7e édition du Race Mania. Une soirée très occupée avec la série MrDIRTcar 358-Modifié en vedette avec une finale de 75 tours ainsi que la série MrDIRTcar Pro-Stock était également présente avec une finale de 50 tours. En plus des séries MrDIRTcar, les Lightning Sprints et STR était aussi en piste en plus de temps chronométrés en Sportsman en vue de la finale de demain. | Danny Johnson winner of the MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Series race at Autodrome Drummond! Drummondville, Quebec –Friday, September 9, 2011 – Martin Bélanger, Public Relations, Director The biggest weekend of the season at Autodrome Drummond started tonight for the first of two days of the 7th edition of Race Mania. A busy night with the MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Series race in town to compete in a 75 lap event, the MrDIRTcar Pro-Stock Series joined the Modifieds with a 50-lap event. Along with the MrDIRTcar series the Lightning Sprints and SpeedSTR were also on the schedule with time trials in Sportsman to help qualifying for tomorrow. |
Un excellent peloton de 43 voitures en Modifiés se sont presentés et les 30 meilleurs ont pu prendre part à la finale de 75 tours. Clément Therrien prend les commandes dans la finale et mène les 13 premiers tours lorsque David Hébert le dépasse prenant la ligne intérieure. Hébert est rapide en tête alors que Danny Johnson tombe 2e au 18e tour. Une belle bataille survient pour la 3e pendant plusieurs tours entre Therrien et Yan Bussière. À la mi-course, Hébert toujours aux commandes de l’épreuve, il est suivi de Johnson, Mario Clair, Therrien et Danny O’Brien. Hébert et Johnson se sont échangé la position de tête pendant la dernière partie de la course alors que Johnson prend les devants au 72e et résiste aux charges d’Hébert pour remporter la victoire alors que Dale Planck termine troisième, cependant ce dernier a été disqualifié pour avoir été trop léger sur la balance. O’Brien et Clair complète le top 5. Dans la finale Pro-Stock, François Adam mène le peloton de 22 voitures dans la finale de 50 tours comptant également pour la série MrDIRTcar. Partant 9e au départ, Joey Ladouceur était visiblement l’homme à battre, il s’est faufiler parmi le peloton et a finalement obtenu les commandes de l’épreuve au 27e tour et s’est forgé une avance très confortable sur le reste du peloton pour ainsi remporter sa 2e finale consécutive dans cette série et en autant de visite à Drummond en 2011. François Adam a terminé 2e suivi de Richard Bertrand qui avait une voiture très rapide dans la deuxième portion de la finale, qui vient compléter le podium. Dans la finale de 25 tours en Lightning Sprints, René Couture mène les 5 premiers tours, Mathieu Bourgoin très rapide le dépasse au tour suivant. Bourgouin bien positionné aux commandes et mène les derniers tours de la finale devant Normand Hamel et Simon Couture complète le podium. Un cash dash de 6 tours a eu lieu en Sportsman déterminant les 6 premières positions pour la finale de demain soir. Martin Pelletier a remporté celui-ci et partira premier suivi de Maxime Michon, René Clair, Patrick Beaumier, Alain Mathieu et David Côté. À cause de l’heure tardive, les STR n’ont pas pu compléter leur finale, elle est remise à demain. L’action se poursuit dès demain à l’Autodrome Drummond alors que la 2e journée d’activités aura lieu avec la visite des Gros-Blocs de la série Super DIRTcar, qui aura une finale de 100 tours avec de nombreux américains en piste. Les Sportsman auront pour leur part une finale de 50 tours avec les STR également en piste pour. Les pratiques débuteront dès 18h30 alors que les premières qualifications auront lieu dès 19h. Clément Therrien took the early lead and led the first 13 laps when David Hébert passes him using the inside lane. Hébert is fast in front while Danny Johnson grabs second on lap 18. A good battle occurs for third for several laps between Therrien and Yan Bussière. At the halfway point, Hébert still in front of the pack with Johnson, Mario Clair, Therrien and Danny O’Brien completing the front five drivers. Hébert and Johnson exchanged the top spot several times in the second part of the feature as Johnson took the lead for good on lap 72 on his way to victory over Hébert, Dale Planck made a late charge to third but was disqualified for being light at the scales, O’Brien and Clair completes the top 5. In the Pro-Stock feature, Francois Adam led the way over the 22-car field in the 50-lap feature also counting towards the MrDIRTcar Series. Starting ninth on the grid, Joey Ladouceur clearly had the fastest car in the field and passed cars to make his way to the top and took the lead on lap 27. Ladouceur built himself a sizeable lead to grab his second consecutive feature in the series and also at Drummond in 2011. François Adam finishes second followed by Richard Bertrand who had a good car in the second portion of the feature to complete the podium. In the 25-lap Lightning Sprints feature, René Couture led the first 5 laps; Mathieu Bourgouin was really fast and passed him on the following lap. Bourgouin led the remainder of the feature to win the race over Kevin Hamel and Simon Couture completed the podium. A 6-lap dash for cash in the Sportsman occurred to determine the top 6 place for the 50-lap event of tomorrow night. Martin Pelletier won and will start first followed by Maxime Michon, René Clair, Patrick Beaumier, Alain Mathieu and David Côté. Because of the curfew in Drummond, the SpeedSTR feature race will be completed in tomorrow`s program. The action continues tomorrow night at Autodrome Drummond for day 2 of activity with the Super DIRTcar Big Block Series in town with a 100-lap event with several outsiders in town. The Sportsman will have a 50-lap event with the STR also sharing the spotlight with a 25-lap feature. Practice will start at 6:30pm with the first heats scheduled at 7pm.
