Devil's Bowl Speedway to Honor Founder at C.J. Richards Memorial Weekend

67-lap Modified race, vintage racing & hot rod show highlight three-day festival

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway will honor its legendary late founder with the first-ever C.J. Richards Memorial Weekend on July 20-22.  Richards, who opened the half-mile stock car track in 1967, passed away in February; his legacy will be on display with an action-packed weekend highlighting the past, present, and future at the track he forged.

 

Carrara Masonry & Concrete will kick off the weekend by presenting NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing on Friday, July 20.  The headline Bond Auto Parts Modified division will run a special 67-lap feature as a tribute to Richards’ efforts in building the speedway 45 years ago, and the weekly Renegade and Bomber divisions will also be on hand; the J&S Steel Late Models have the week off.  A special invitational race for the Daredevil community racing class will be held during the program, as Devil’s Bowl Speedway favorites including Tim LaDuc, Jimmy Ryan, Ray Hoard, and Charlie Brown return to action for a fun and nostalgic event.

Regular general admission for the C.J. Richards Memorial 67 presented by Carrara Masonry & Concrete on Friday, July 20 is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under.  Gates open at 5:00pm with racing scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.

On Saturday, July 21, Rutland’s Rock Station 101.5 “The Fox” presents the C.J. Richards Memorial Vintage Festival for vintage race cars, hot rods, and show cars.  Open-wheel and full-fender racing vehicles from from the 1950s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s will be on display with classic street rods and show cars from 12:00 noon until 6:00pm.  Sunday, July 22 opens at 11:00am with best-in-show awards as chosen by fans, then the cars of yesteryear roar to life for practice, hot laps, and racing events.
