AS-052311-1

South Plattsburgh – The Race of Champions (RoC) Asphalt Modified Series will make its first ever appearance at Airborne Speedway Saturday, June 4, one week after its 2011 schedule begins at Oswego Speedway.

Teams entered in the Della Auto Group 100 include defending RoC champion Matt Hirschman of Northampton, PA, Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, NY, Pete Brittain of Allentown, PA, Daren Scherer of Binghamton, NY and Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, NY.

Rudolph, 19, is a third generation driver who has enjoyed big-block modified success on both asphalt and dirt. His father and crew chief, Charlie Rudolph, is a three-time Lancaster Speedway champion (asphalt) and a two-time Ransomville Speedway champion (dirt).

Rudolph will drive the Heinke-Baldwin Racing Mohawk NorthEast/Original Pizza Logs Chevrolet No. 98 in a 125-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Stafford Motor Speedway before heading to Oswego for the RoC opener.

“I’m looking forward to racing at Airborne,” Rudolph said. “I’ve heard it’s a really good place to race. Now I’ll get to check I out. Winning is definitely what we’re after even when we’re at a track for the first time.”

Race of Champions Modifieds are two feet wider than a NASCAR Sprint Cup car and 11 inches lower to the ground. They run 15-inch slicks and produce 650 HP.

Airborne’s DIRTcars Modifieds, Sportsman, Renegade, Mini Modified and Bomber divisions will join the Race of Champion Asphalt Modifieds on the Furniture World of VT/Saratoga Auto Body race card. Post time is 6 p.m.

Airborne Speedway is located on Broderick Road in South Plattsburgh, just off Route 22 one mile south of I-87 exit 36. For more information, visit www.airborneparkspeedway.com.
