Perrotte to strap in for Airborne finale

For immediate release – AS-090511-1

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Speedway promoter Mike Perrotte will join the fray Sunday, September 11 in the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Syracuse Qualifier for DIRTcar Modifieds. The Charley Trombley 100-lap Big Block/Small Block Challenge, which pays $3,000 to win, is named in honor of the late multi-time Airborne champion from Mooers Forks.

Perrotte will drive the Adirondack Auto Big Block Modified No. 35 for owner George Huttig.

“I’m looking forward to racing with the guys,” he said. “I know some of them think it might be fun to wave as they go by me, but I’ll be out there trying to win just like them. Maybe I can surprise a few of them still.”

Most drivers think the Small Blocks will have an advantage because of the extra weight of the Big Blocks,” Perrotte said. “As the race goes on, maybe the Small Blocks will have more tire because the Big Blocks will burn them off. We’ll see. I know Pierre Berthiaume is running a Big Block. I’m not sure if anyone else will.”

Seven-time Mr. DIRT Champion Brett Hearn of Vernon, NJ, will compete for the first time on the Airborne asphalt half-mile in a Small Block Modified prepared by Bartemy Racing and sponsored by TDI Towing & Truck Repair and 1-800-Rescue-911.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Casino 100 is a part of a two-day event. Saturday, September 10, Sportsman and Renegade qualifying will be combined with Mini Modified and Bomber features that will decide track championships. Sunday’s card includes the Charlie Trombley 100 Big Block/Small Block Challenge, Sportsman Modifieds and title events for the Sportsman and Renegades.

Martin Roy clinched the Airborne Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified crown September 3.

Two-day adult general admission is $20. Saturday only admission is $5. Adult admission for Sunday is $18. Kids 12 and under admitted free. Post time Saturday 2 p.m. Post time Sunday 1 p.m.
