FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                            ACT – 082112 -70

Waterbury, VT – In 2012, Barre’s own Nick Sweet has been busy with one of the most successful Thunder Road Late Model seasons in recent memory, but when the dust settles at the end of the month in Thunder Road’s Late Model division, his focus will turn to the race he owned in 2011: The Bond Auto Labor Day Classic.

Last year, Sweet lost the championship to Middlesex’s Dave Pembroke in late August, but was offered the seat of the RPM #57 car, teammate to eight-time Champion Brian Hoar, for the Labor Day Classic. Sweet flew to his first victory in the event, etching his name once more in the granite stones at Thunder Road.

Sweet will have more competition than ever in 2012, however. Hudson, NH’s Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who has a knack for turning up the heat in the second half of the year, finished runner-up to Sweet in 2011, but in 2012, Polewarczyk comes in as a top four driver on the American Canadian Tour, and is still riding the momentum from his dominating TD Bank 250 win in July. Eight-time American Canadian Tour Champion Brian Hoar gained his confidence back after a strong runner-up finish in the Sanair 100 last Sunday (August 12), and also won the season opener at Thunder Road in the spring.

The Bond Auto Labor Day Classic will also bring in ACT Point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr. back to Thunder Road for the first time since his second-place finish in the Merchants Bank 150 in May. Helliwell, who is currently riding the high of his ACT-leading third win of the season, will come into the Labor Day Classic looking to tame the track he has historically struggled with, and chase his first-ever ACT championship.

The stars of Thunder Road and the American Canadian Tour will vie for one of the biggest events of the year at the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic on Sunday, September 2. Post time is 1:00pm. Adult admission is $25, kids 6-12 are $5, and children under 6 get in free.
